A few years back I got into a conversation with a (bitcoin) forum spammer. Turned out he was one of about 300 people in his town in Pakistan who were paid about $2 per day to spam forums. It was the main source of income for his family. He wasn't an idiot, I ended up giving him a job.
Its an annoyance for us but a means of income for many.
