What are the chances of that being an actual account with just 1 digi different out of the the 6+8 digis combo?
High. Account numbers are often sequential.
As I see it, you provided your bank details. They haven't paid you. If they screwed up and sent the money somewhere else it's their problem. End of story.

I know, which is why it’s frustrating because they are insisting that I changed my details on the online system between the starter form and getting paid. It’s my words against theirs, I can insist for them to show me proof like system logs but I honestly don’t think out HR system is that advanced or at least they wouldn’t know what I am talking about.
I just hope they get the money or whatever back in the next few days and that will be the end of the story.
I did supply the correct bank details yes but they are also saying I didn’t. I have a screen shot of my start forms and they are not disputing the fact that I did provide the correct bank details but they are now also saying I changed it. Why would I touch my bank details if I haven’t changed my bank?
It looks like they fucked it up when they entered my bank details incorrectly onto the system and trying to shift the blame onto me.
So what it is the sort code is correct, only the last digi of the account number is wrong. What are the chances of that being an actual account with just 1 digi different out of the the 6+8 digis combo?
Also, how long does it usually take for a recall to be processed?
I am going to pay that incorrect account £1 later to see what will happen to get an idea myself. A colleague who has worked there for much longer told me they would not rule out someone was actually commuting a fraud. I don’t know, so before I get my union and then legal involved, I just want to get paid and let it slide, if HR is dodgy, it’s not my fight.
So any banking help is appreciated so if they are trying to call bluff I can react accordingly before it gets ugly. Union and legal will be the last step if now resolved by end of next week.
