Ugh, sorry this happened to you. It must be incredibly frustrating, I can't even really begin to imagine.
I know it's an anecdotal experience on my half (also backed up by data) but when I'm out working almost every single time I see a car pulled over with the police searching it, there's a bored/annoyed/frustrated looking person of colour by the side of the road putting up with the police questions.
The polices relationship with the whole of the public is incredibly bad I think, obviously considerably worse with the black community. I think you'd be hard pushed to find a non-tory voter who had a good overall opinion of the police. It's not sustainable but they don't seem to care and just seem to want to double down.
Gonna revive this rather than bother the BLM thread. First S&S of the year today, in the private car park of my workplace. Buzzed through the gate with my fob and a squad car swiftly swerves into the gate before it closes and I'm half way through the car park to the building. I see them pull in and instantly know it's me, so step off the bike and wait for them to roll up.
4 uniformed officers jump out of the vehicle, surprisingly hands off to start with. Of course, as soon as I don't give my name and ask if I'm detained, they panic and slap some section something of something something to secure a search on me. Apparently people cycle through our private gated car park with stolen goods in the past so I conveniently match that criteria (plenty of other people cycling through as this goes on). Also, the gates are access only so no fob = No entry 🤦♂️
It's the first time this year but I'll guarantee it's not the last. Ever since my early teens I've been stopped and searched regularly, a few times a year at least, often when I'm cycling.
I've never committed a crime in my life, yet one of the Met's goons finds an excuse, year on year, to empty my pockets out in public areas. Do you know how embarrassing and degrading it is to have a stranger empty your pockets a few times a year because you look like you might have committed a crime, or you look like someone who had committed a crime previously in that area. Honestly this happens way too much for me to swallow that excuse every few months while some power tripping pig goes through my pockets.
There was one time I got mobbed by 4 plain clothes officers while just walking, minding my own business. They all ran at me from different directions. Of course, I look just like a guy that's been robbing something or other in the area. Won't give my name, fine, section blah blah and we'll go through your bag and pockets.
On this occasion I only had to walk 5 minutes around the corner before a separate, uniformed officer recognises me (he fucking didn't) as some other criminal that he's after. That was 2 searches, in the same hour, on an adjacent road.
I naïvely though taking a complaint to the local station was a good idea, just got a nice laugh in my face and told no such thing is going to happen.
I have a load of stories like this. I don't think I'll ever come to terms with this idea of "giving them a break"
