  • It’s a proper mafioso.

    Paint needs some TLC, swirls and all that but that’s easily resolved. Just need to run some numbers as it came on my path slightly sooner than expected but they’re willing to set it aside based on a small deposit.

    Still need to get a suit / boots and gloves. 😋

  • Have you ridden it yet? It looks like it would be a nice thing to have just to look at but it looks like an active ride.

  • Not yet, just popped in after work really and had about 20 minutes before they closed.

    For sure it requires some engagement and effort during the ride but that’s what it’s meant for right? It’s definitely no tourer.

  • Exactly, commitment. Just wondered if you had ridden it and decided you were that committed, it's pretty mental right?!?

    I'm just saying I could fall for it on looks alone.

  • I’ve owned two super sports before, a GSXR and an RSV Mille R.

    I’m familiar with the concept and would agree a super sport definitely has its limitations and challenges from time to time.

    It’s more or less the same as a road bike to me, it serves a specific purpose that shines when used with the correct mindset and gear. If your expectations are different, you’ll simply come home disappointed and frustrated. In reality, it wasn’t the best choice for your actual riding style.

  • I'm probably only vintage speed with super sports. The fastest bike I've owned was an R1150RS. I couldn't get used to the speed it went through the gears and used to hit the limiter regularly.

    I should try something really fast but I'd have to ride through a lot of traffic to get anywhere I could use it.

  • The standard in Italy is max speed plus at least 30km which helps a bit with that challenge haha. ;)

  • I remember that from driving there. Getting flashed at 110mph to move over on those bends after the border in Southern France. It always felt like some kind of looney tunes tunnel.

    As you're in Italy it changes the dynamic quite a bit. It seems like they are really made for Italian roads.

  • Love the 1098S. They actually might be the one to get from a riders perspective. I've never ridden one but the 1198 was a proper handful - almost a little too much midrange punch. I'd have either if the right one came up. Bucking the trend but I'd like mine to be red!

  • Yep 110mph in Italy is slow. It’s speed limit sign + 50% or gtfo

  • Great to see an update on this. If you're after a Sunday best then can't really think of a better machine, but may be biased as have a soft spot for 1198's. From your GSX-R and RSV sounds like you know what you're getting into, personally a 1098 doesn't 'make sense' on the road but then it's not really supposed to. What turned me off getting an 1198 was the belt service intervals, but that's obviously part of the Ducati experience. If you enjoy the trading up journey of ownership and can afford it why not, can't see it depreciating. Even if you develop arthritis in your left hand and your back packs up at least you'll have tried it. Probably not very helpful or impartial but this video, albeit of a 1198s, probably says it best.

  • I'd love an 1198s but that price range exceeds what I'm currently willing to spend on a bike. In the end, it's just a toy and an additional hobby that only makes sense if you have / make the time for it.

    Haven't been on a motorbike for a while and time will tell if the love for riding is still there but it's one of those things I need to get out of my system and there's only one way to do so. Important difference will be the Italian landscape compared to the Dutch one.

    I saw that vid, the front end shakes give you a good indication of the grunt this engine packs.

    What I found interesting is it lifts with very little throttle, that midrange must be savage. Also agreed re the music. A test ride might make things slightly harder, in a good way ;)

  • Talking of Ducati, quite like this Monster 821 with mono swingarm by Slayer House Motorcycle. Even has a Campag sticker.

  • Pah! It's a Ducati, you don't need things as conventional as a "seat". Just look at that exhaust!

  • Can’t sit on an exhaust for long though...

  • Bit of a hacks/bodges thread overlap. Bought these mirrors, went to fit and got instantly annoyed. Once tightened down they’d swing on the bolt, clearly not located permanently.

    So I pulled on them and of course the black portion wasn’t even glued inside the arm.

    Filled the cavity with loads of red threadlock, drilled a small hole into the black metal part (which is hollow/threaded), and used a small piece of snapped drill bit as a dowel pin.

    Filled the end of the hole with fire gum.

    Gone back to the bike 5 hours later and they feel pretty solid.

    Had brand new Avon Road Rider mkII fitted this morning. Need to scrub them tomorrow, so it’ll be a good test if the mirrors move or not.

  • I never mind a bit of tinkering but would you really expect something decent at 13 squid?
