I love my LS50s but there are undoubtedly some songs that are just far better in my IEMs, but mostly the occasional more deep electronic albums i listen to, generally dont notice it.
But otherwise I highly recommend them

My concern for Soul is that as he has had floorstanders for a while, that he really will notice.
Just gotta demo them if you can @soul - only way to decide IMO. The Meta's were the only speakers I've purchased blind with the intention of keeping them, and I didn't get on with them despite the mad hype reviews.

totally, ive only sampled stand mounts!

Yeah. Hoping to demo tomorrow if I can make the time work.
I do listen to an eclectic mix of stuff and electronic is definitely in there.
Let’s see!

^^ what JB and Rogan said.
That said, the metas will resolve far better than that amp could ever manage, so yes they would be overkill IMO. You'd probably be better off with the original LS50s and a little sub. I've found that sand-filled, heavy-duty stands are transformative for stand-mount speakers
My money is on the likelihood that you walk out of the store with another set of floor-standers though

So, if you still need floorspace to put stands for the standmounts... Why not have a neat compact pair of floorstanders and have the wider frequency range built in?

Has anyone got any and sub recommendations. I need something to beef up the lower end. My PMC's have amazing clarity but are lacking a bit of oomph.
-

PMC Sub 1? I have one on my desk setup. Or the old PMC Sub. Or REL something.

Kind of surprised they are lacking bass though. Mine don't like small amps. Once I got them on 250w mono blocks the amps really started to grip the bass driver.
I would really try to sort the problem without adding a sub unless it's a desk system.
Also, which PMC's?

This is what led my to my Totem's. They take up less space than a pair of stands+speakers and the freq response goes much, much lower.

You might be right. I won't have time to test multiple things today though so might have to put more time in over the weekend.

Worth having a look at BK. They used to make stuff for REL before REL went all American.

Maybe also worth looking at the small ads? Approx £1k budget gets you into second hand Harbeth, ProAc etc (or even Tannoy as I discovered before being vetoed by the real boss).

Because stand-mounted speakers on decent stands sound better than compact floor-standers.
Compare the Kef R3 stand-mounts vs Kef R5 floor standing speakers. The R3 has a 6.5" driver, the R5 has a pair of 5" drivers. The R5 will go a bit louder except you lose bass frequencies, whereas the R3 will be better balanced and go down to lower frequencies more comfortably.
IMHO stand-mounts also look a LOT better in most living rooms, which let's face it is where they're going to live for most of us

Well … that was an adventure.
Listened to the Kef LS50s, Dali Oberon 5 and 7s, Monitor 200s and Fyne 302s
In the end, the Kef were excellent but would have required a sub, the Oberon 5s were out of stock for 3 months, the 7s were too big and the monitor 200s lacked some punch.
The Fyne weren’t the best of the bunch but they had an open boxed set that had been demoed once, for £250.
That gives me plenty to buy a sub to complete the package.

Nice. I considered Fyne's when I was in the market but everywhere was outta stock stateside. Very different pair of speakers versus the KEFs!
-
• #9918
They even match the unit.. worrying levels of boxset dadrock in the record collection though?
-
• #9919
I know. Didn’t expect to come out with these. A combination of saving £750 vs the Kefs and the bass response being slightly better.

I’m not here for music taste judgement. Only audio equipment judgement.
-
• #9921
How different are they to the CAs you had before?
-
• #9922
They’re a lot cleaner sounding. The CAs were muddy and struggled to separate different instruments.
The base is also punchier without being too heavy.
-
• #9923
Excellent - seem like a bit of a bargain there
-
• #9924
I was surprised when I sent from Spendor A5 to the larger A6, that the perceived bass response was lesser on the bigger speakers.
Still hatching a subwoofer plan but it requires room reconfig.
-
• #9925
Definitely. They retail for £480 and WhatHifi have them down as the best floor standers under £1k in recent tests.
I might have chosen the Oberon if they were in stock because they’re much more compact but, for £250, I can just decide I don’t like these and switch up if I want.
That's a huge difference in what you'll hear IMO. I am absolutely not a basshead, but I felt like I was missing half the song at points. I didn't feel that way as much with my 607s.
