And if United win the Europa League, would the sixth placed side also qualify?
(Just trying to involve the Kopites in the conversation)

All this semi erect Chelsea love in is making me want them to finish out of the top 4 even more*
*I didn’t think that was possible

Scruples intact, Tim, we aren't Kopites or Spuds...

as a neutral it is a bit boring the all england CL final (remember the boring Liverpool Spurs one).
but got to respect the way that both City and Chelsea went about their semi finals though. totally dismantled supposedly two of the best teams in Europe. respect

agreed but that was the only thing he did, I'm just saying he's a shithouse rather than dirty

• #156285
I don’t think so, it would be possible to finish 4th and not qualify for the CL. If Chelsea and Arsenal win their respective European competitions and finish outside the top four, the 4th team drops out.

I can’t find any confirmation that Everton, as champions elect, get a place next season

Didn't do it the easy way as the game could have been put to bed way way early, but what a game and what a performance. We kept Real in their box and moved so so well to create big chances. What an achievement!

I think the rules have been changed so that a domestic winner outside the top 4 would mean 5 prem teams in the CL, possibly 6 if arsenal won? My understanding is that the lack of places is then resolved by qualifying rounds at pre-group stage level but might be wrong.
In terms of Europa League since all FA/league cup finalists look poised to qualify for either champions or europa I assume 6th and 7th will grab those spots so Everton, spuds and the kopites to play a game of musical chairs.

Regardless of what happens a maximum of 5 teams can enter the CL from England.
The BBC usually summarise it quite well on their "Ups and Downs and race for Europe" page: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/56715717
"
If English teams win both competitions but finish outside the top four, there can only be a maximum of five English teams in the Champions League, so the fourth-placed team will enter the Europa League.

Longer Europa/CL explainer: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/56787573
It's all a bit trickier as there's a new "Europa Conference League".

Utd v Liverpool rescheduled for next Thursday. Gives United a bit of an advantage, as they're used to playing Thursdays. Still, Liverpool can use it as practice for next year's European campaign.

Foden and Mount both under 25 having big impacts on champions league semi finals its quite an achievement. #stillhigh

Got 55%.
Assuming Chelsea and City both finish on the top four, would this mean the fifth placed side would also qualify for the Champions League?
