My DT Swiss 240S hub (current gen) turned itself into a bi-directional freewheel yesterday.

Current gen meaning the "240" (they dropped the "S") with the new ratchet design? If so this is a recurring issue with certain batches, DT are taking wheels back no-questions-asked for a retrofit:

That's interesting.

What are the claimed benefits of the new system? Because this and Dammit's comment about them needing a special tool seems to be going backwards.
