Your cranks could be just loose.
-
• #678
Yes, you can tighten that yourself. Plenty of guides online.
On HT II road triples there should be a 3.5mm spacer between the left crank and the bottom bracket. Unfashionable shops may forget to fit it.

Thanks folks. Yeah, the spacer is there. I'll have a little play tonight before I start doing anything too involved.

Struggling to set up my GRX 400 front mech. First time I've installed and adjusted this newer style mech with aligning the "input link" and "bracket line" for cable tension.
Followed the Shimano dealer manual and overall it works, it shifts OK but it's not perfect.
If riding in the big ring, going from top to top trim, the cage doesn't move. In order to use top-trim, I have to stop pedalling, click to low and then gently back to top trim.
Any idea what the problem might be there? -

Check the tension, it's easy to give it a bit too much if you just adjust it to the line as told, do that, then shift the trim and double check it, adjust and shift again if needed.

As @snottyotter said main culprit is too much cable tension.

Thanks, I'll try this a bit later on.
In order to line them up I had to wind the tension screw in quite far. I'll back it off and see if it improves. -
• #684
Did it line up when in big trim position? The amount of initial tension needed on the new style derailleurs are massive. At work I normally grab a third hand tool.
-
• #685
Yes, lines up when in big trim, when going from low to big trim. That's with the tension screw wound in quite far.
Problem is going from big, back down to big trim, cage doesn't move. Are you suggesting I needed more tension before tightening the cable clamp?

As long as the lines match up it’s fine but you won’t have much room for adjustments later. The trim on them mechs are minimal from experience. If you back off the high limit screw (or whatever they call it on them mechs) does it then trim? My thought is maybe your limit screw is stopping the mech on the trim position.

This may be a commonly known trick, but it's one I learned far too late -
To get chain grease off your hands, rub them with a little bit of olive oil first. This dissolves the heavy oil in a lighter oil, which you can then wash off easily with dish soap.

Set it up so it does.

It's not a limit screw as such on these, you tighten it to push the mech further out board.

Yeah, your right. My bad.

I'd love to. Sounds/looks simple but I can't get it there.
Had a go over lunch, from the beginning.
Backed off the high limit, took cable out, aligned outer cage (in low position) with big ring.
Pushed lever to top trim, set tension to align lines, dropped back to low position, pulled tension on to cable and tightened clamp.
Now tightened high limit in order to get cage to move enough to change to big ring, set high limit as per dealer manual.4 cage positions are there, low trim, low, top trim, top (if you go in that order)
Clicking the lever to go from top to top trim, still no movement. -

Less cable tension until it does, just whack it in top trim and adjust cable tension until it lines up, then go to top and back to top trim, check adjustment, back to top then top trim, check adjustment.

Will give that a go, thanks.

Is this my BB30 or something else? It seemed to go away when I gently rinsed by bottom bracket area on the last ride, but came back again today.
Only happens when pedalling, in or out of saddle, large or small chainring.

Bottom bracket service would be my first port of call on BB30.

OK well I've gone with thoroughly wiping down the outside so far, let's see if that helps at all.

Clicking noise from my bike: took me absolutely ages to finally track down the source!
There’s a little rectangle of metal in the rim - it looks like it used to be where the join of the rim is but now is free to slide round. I know nothing about wheels so havnt a clue how vital this is to it’s integrity.
Fiery death?

Fiery death?
As always, most probably

This happened in a HED Belgium Plus I have and wound me up no end. I think it’s essentially a piece of metal that’s used to hold everything in place when they’re joining the rim. You’ll find advice online that suggests you can secure it in place using a punch on the rim join but I had great success with a tiny bit of superglue (carefully) in the spoke hole to stick it in place out of the way of the nipple/hole
Side to side (as far as I can tell).
