Looking good! My first car was a 2007 Panda, I loved that thing (until I flipped it on it's side at 70mph).

I mean, I’m not a buyer but can’t hurt to see a photo.

Always loved the Citroën BX

My old boss has one. It was originally owned by Ginger Baker who totalled it in Africa on some sort drug enduced safari.
I recall Mr Baker turned up for an interview with me at Robert Stigwood's office, parking the Jensen outside at the kerb. The interview was terminated sharpish when an assistant let Ginger know traffic wardens were in the process of removing it. He was displeased...to say the least.
Anyhow, how can the car have been totalled if your boss now owns it?

So good! Of all cars of any type I think I get giddiest about BXs. Way cheap and very local to me too.

Do it. Do it. Do it. Do it.

Just noticed it’s non-turbo diesel. Lovely car, horrid, horrid engine :(

Never knew Gandini reached Mazda with his futurism also...
(Recently restored at much cost)

I always thought that the two generations of 323’s that this spawned were very futuristic-looking, especially the later frameless-windowed one when fitted with wheels that fill the arches properly.
Shame they didn’t get the performance treatment.

Does your built-in lumbar function actually still work? I seem to recall it was a bit breaky

Over the last two week, I have read through the last 7 months of the car thread, and now I'm up to date.
Phew.
tl/dr: Dammit got a new estate with a bum seat but still no new engine in the Porsche.
Quite liked the mini chat, and good to see that the forum Volvo is still more or less alive. Also enjoyed the super brave 5 series BM developments.

The 1.9 is better than the 1.7 td due to the cam issues.
-
• #64315
The 1.7 turbo diesel wasn’t much better. Good for its time. Gutless and shit by modern standards.

I drove a version of this engine in my dad’s Peugeot van and merging into traffic was terrifying. Dated is definitely the word, dangerous and obsolete would be a couple of others. An absence of power is one thing, I drove aircooled VWs for years, but the sheer reluctance of a NA diesel is rotten.

Now that's a good question. The drivers and the passengers side are the same, insofar as my highly scientific "fiddle with it at traffic lights" based testing can reveal. The chairs have a lumbar bladder, and it can be moved up and down, but at its lowest it's in the lower 1/3rd of my thoracic spine.
What's confusing is that the massage function does start at the base of the lumbar spine, which suggests that something is broken. But on both chairs?

The 1.9 was better in the bx that the pug as the bx is alot lighter, due to plastic panels.
There are kits to turbo the 1.9, intercooler will be on top of the engine and uses the bonnet liner to get air flow to the intercooler.

I’m with you. I wouldn’t get into that sort of work though. If I could find a petrol wagon that clean I’d be very tempted.

I had a 1.7 na visa that was lots of fun. It was foot to the floor every where and learning to carry the speed.
BX was similar but with the hydraulic suspension you could corner faster.
There was a 4x4 gti saloon and a 16v up for sale recently on the Citroen owners site. Both needed re commissioning after being in storage. Did think about it.

is there a more midrange alternative to “the out”? i want to hire a nice car for a long weekend, that gets delivered and picked up to my house or at least somewhere local. but i don’t want a range rover or a sports car.

Avis Prestige. Just be ready to do a 2 grand pre auth on your credit card in case you stuff the nice new Jaguar into a tree.

Just digesting a bmw (main dealer, midlands) service invoice on behalf of my dad and helping him understand it with my limited knowledge. Rip off? £307 inc vat for oil change, oil filter, air filter and fuel filter on a 2014 320d? That's what £100 of parts/oil on ECP and 1 hour shop labour?
No idea what an intake silencer service entails or if they will have changed the brake fluid for £65+VAT
edit - sent me a blurry whatsapp image of the invoice across 3 pages so stuck it in a SS to digest it

That looks about right. BMW actually do fixed price service at all franchises dealers - if you walk yourself through the online booking form you should see what it tallies you to.
Many dealers will waive the traffic light diagnostic fee if you do a service so you should be able to get them to throw in that for fre
They have 20% off until end of June on all servicing and the prices you were quoted seem to include that
Anyone interested a k reg original range rover for 14k.
Modded carefully with 4.2 supercharged engine and box with a megasquirt engine system. Was going to sell the engine and box with aftermarket electronics and return to standard but need cash hence the low price.
PM for photos and more details.
