Folks, the bloke who spray.biked a brand new crust frame is definitely not going to flinch at re-machining a Chris king headset.

• #103
Fair point well made.

Yeah, I bought my Clydesdale fork from her. It’s very limited what she has in stock, Crust wise, and I don’t need another bike until one of mine break.

We must applaud the single-mindedness of his vision.

• #106
For real tho, why not just cut the steerer?
-
• #107
Or add spacers in between?
-
• #108
Not possible with a GripNut.
-
• #109
Not with that attitude
-

If you're going through the effort to have the CK top nut altered, a far less destructive and similarly faffy option would be to have a spacer machined for the collet and tapped on each end (guessing female –> male).

@Batt good shout. I’m talking to a machine shop tomorrow. Will see if that’s an option.

Put a threadless headset on! You know you want to. On the threads. You’ll find a way.

Something like this:

So is that a threadless steerer joined to a threaded one? If so the commitment is commendable 🙂

Very interested to see what you come up with!
I’d have long since cut the steerer or just bought a NOS 2Nut and sold the GripNut.
-
• #117
It’s a threaded steerer turned down to be smooth. It has a custom stem mated to it.

Build day 🙂

Have you sorted the headset out?
-
• #121
Did you get somebody to machine it, like you were on about, or has another headset been purchased?
This is going to be on hell of a build, anticipation growing up here in the cheap seats! -

The Chris King is in place as hoped. 🙂
-
• #123
Excellent, now stop talking to me on here, and get building!
