Considering period correctness. Shamal, Techno, etc. wheels overlap considerably with the steel competition bike era. Those are around 40mm high and look nice with Ergopower or sti builds.
The contrast between high profile rims and steel tubing can look really nice imo. I'd only go for carbon if it's a MGOOF build or a mid nineties Alu frame build however.
