  • I have so many stupid, bad ideas I really need to win the lottery in order to pursue them.

Let’s say, for the sake of pure conjecture, that someone bought the S600 that’s on eBay at the moment for £7,900 (so lets call it £6,500) and the E55 Estate that’s on for £9,500 (£9,000?) and then paid DynoTorque £10,000 to put the V12 and transmission from the S600 into the E55, what would the resulting mutant be worth if/when said twin-turbo V12 AMG estate were offered to the market?

  • A million views on youtube is worth ~£3k....

  • A lot less than the total - unless you have someone who really, really wants it - young people call them unicorns. My friend bought an A6 and basically made it into an RS 6 - lost a lot of money. I wish I had bought it from him though (me being a unicorn).

  • What do you think- total new value equivalent to the cheaper donor vehicle? Less?

    It’d be a 700 horsepower V12 estate - which I acknowledge is a niche within a niche..

  • It’s really worth what someone is prepared to pay for it. I don’t think anyone could put a ‘reasonable’ value on it. Pure guess £12k - a buyer does not expect to pay the labour charges for a previous owner - If that makes sense.
If you want it and want to do it - go for it - it’s a fun hobby but don’t expect to get the financial return on it.
I better say I’m not a car dealer so my comments may be wrong but that is my opinion.

  • At what point does it just make more sense to buy a purpose built motorsport engine and just bang that in instead?

  • Silly cars out in force recently.

Got a fan turning up tomorrow hopefully so I can go shoot photos of Formula G on Saturday.

  • Who knows, might even get the MX5 finished in the next couple of weeks. Lost my job due to lack of funding so got a lot of free time on my hands.

  • This is a similar situation I'm in with my Lexus engined Forester plans... maybe I'm being optimistic but I think if the work is done to an extremely high standard it should be worth a few quid. A lot of these odd one offs are fairly poorly finished which is what makes the value disappointing...

  • That hangs around Bolt motorbike place off church at N16, posted and remarked on lack of American big engine noise on here. It’s air cooled apparently.

  • Different times...

  • Ah man, sorry to hear this

  • Lived round here for a few years now and didn't know that place existed!!

  • This has always been one of my fears of buying any modified / competition car.

Every time i have bought a pre-prepared car I have always ended up going through some automotive archaeology and re-doing various bits anyway (although, not going full Dammit).

Electrics and Wiring are one of the most commonly bodged things in my experience

  • It is what it is, I didn't have any options left in December so even a gamble on a brand new startup that was offering 3 months minimum was worth taking. I feel lucky that I got an extra month.

  • Amazing Corvair.

Lost my job due to lack of funding so got a lot of free time on my hands.

    If I can help...just ask.

  • I mean it's not nearly at the big engine swap end of things but I made money on my R53 when I sold it due to the quality of the work done, I even had a few interested punters who missed out on buying it wanting to know if I would mod cars for them if they bought a stock R53 and handed it over!

  • Cheers mate! You helped big time last time so I really appreciate it 🙏🏽

  • It was ok, I exaggerated for dramatic effect.

Just scuffed the chrome on the corner of his bumper, the van took a bigger hit!

  • Cheers.

  • Been spotting this in Brockley a lot recently. Detective work tells me @mrs_socks might even know who it belongs to? It wasn't clean the day I took this picture, but I did get the og mud flaps in though.

Also special mention to the original dealer plate and rear window sticker.

  • ...led me to this. I would bloody love one of these.

  • Parking ticket is the pièce de résistance.

    Sorry for your loss.

  • My first summer job was helping the local car restoration guru when I was 13 and one of his customers brought one of these in for a complete restoration as a daily driver. 13 year old me thought it was so odd that someone was having a full restoration on what was a c.10 year old car at the time. 32 year old me is deeply envious of his taste and foresight.

  • Yeah we had a 240 then a 940 when I was a kid and I thought it was deeply uncool at the time. Look back now and think how awesome they were.
