  • I use a protone lacrosse ball. Got one off amazon. It's great for my back.

  • Does anyone have any thoughts on massage guns, specifically the theragun mini. I'm too lazy to do a proper warm down, use foam rollers or even stretch but could possibly see myself pummeling my body with one of these. Any good or just a bullshit fad?

  • I just got one of these from Costco. It's by Homedics and it was about a hundred quid I think

Only got it the other day so no long term experience but I was curious about them so thought I'd give this a go. Difficult to tell but as a quick test, I did ten minutes or so on one leg after doing some fairly tough laps riding yesterday morning and left the other leg not done and after standing and doing a few little squats and things, the massaged leg felt much less sore and more recovered. Today my legs feel fine having then done both legs.
Not a very good test admittedly but I'm looking forward to testing it out more.
It feels good at least (unlike rolling)

  • Is that this one: https://www.argos.co.uk/product/8973050 ?

Used it anymore? Was it useful?

  • Not that exact one but that might just be an updated version as costco tend to sell last-season electronics a bit cheaper I find. It looks like the settings will be the same, mine doesn't have quite as fancy a screen on the back but it is the flat circular head which I have used the most, it's good for larger muscles like the quads and the argos one doesn't seem to come with that one.

I've been using it after every long ride and I'm super impressed with how it literally takes some of the muscle pain right out of my legs. I don't feel fresh to run a marathon but I can be really sore before using it and a lot less after 15 minutes use.

  • Cool! Will go check it out in Costco.

  • We got a theragun recently. It’s amazing how quickly painful points get pummelled into quiet submission. My IT bands have never felt this much release.

  • This thread has made me realise that these are actually within my budget and probably a good idea given my daily aches >>>> middle age thread. Am thinking Theragun Mini too. Buying a random model from Amazon looks like a lottery, hundreds of the things, although all get pretty decent ratings FWIW.

  • Or Wiggle one with similar specs for £80

  • I bought my gf a random one off ebay last year - I looked through a bunch of them and it had great reviews but it was just simply not as good / powerful as a theragun. But maybe some of them are.

We sent it back and she bought a theragun proper afterwards. Not the big one, but it's not the mini either. Taking a quick look I'm guessing it's the prime, which actually seems to do the job as well as the big one, but isn't as heavy to hold. Don't think the mini existed at that time.

  • We got the theragun pro. It’s overkill and it’s main 3 advantages are the ability to change the angle of the piston (barely used), the swappable batteries which is great so we can always have one battery fully charged and it is 50 percent more powerful. (60 vs 40lbs of punching power) I have never managed to make it stall so have no idea if I have pushed it close to its limit. It also comes with an additional super soft attachment which is great for a more gentle approach, going close to the spine or massaging face and skull.

It’s a lot cheaper than a weekly deep tissue massage and I can do it while watching tv or even in zoom meetings if camera is off or not showing my lower body.

This is the best part about them. I've the Recovapro and it's great. At the start of the first lockdown, I managed to fall asleep in a really bad position, and then made it worse the next day. Ordered a the big one (mini wasn't out then) and it arrived the following day. After 3 x 10mins it was fixed.

Since then it's now a regular habit. Just sitting on the sofa at the end of the day, after exercise or a ride and pummelling yourself is bliss. Aches just disappear. Working on my hamstrings, I can now get down further. And during lockdown it was amazing on my lower back while I was WFH.

Bearing in mind Recovapro and Theragun come with a money back guarantee, I'd totally recommend people trying them.

Can't they detect vibration in your voice?!

I've got to re-evaluate this then given the comments. My main source of life misery is constant and varied aches, so sounds like it's worth considering greater expense. Seems you are paying for power and the depth of amplitude, I note the Theragun Mini is 12mm, same as most generic ones, whereas the Prime & Pro are 16mm.
