Asshole cat decided to sit on top of my turntable today.
You have the whole goddam house! Why?!

Probably the same reason ours like to sleep in the pram and the crib - centers of attention and all that.

When people go away, what’s to be done? At first I thought you find a friend who can take care of your cat at their house, but it seems they actually like to stay home have visitors to feed them etc.
What’s everyone’s tips & methods? Automatic feeder?
We’ve booked a long weekend away at the end of May. Not sure Jam would enjoy the drive so he’s staying in London.

I look after my mate's cats when he goes away, I pop in twice a day to feed them and hang out for a bit. It's easy with them as they have a catflap.

When Fred was alive we just had friends and neighbours come in once a day to feed her. She was ok with that.
Our new two have never been left cos lockdown. Not sure how that will work out, when the time comes.

We've had ours go to friends' houses and apart from one occasion that's never gone very well. I'm lucky to have really good neighbours and we'll look after each other's cats when going away. Comes in a few times a day and cats much happier with this.
Also, found getting a couple of Blink cameras really helpful but you end up watching them loads!

We pay someone to come in each day we're away, who we found out spoils the cats rotten and makes them little catnip toys.
Last year we were away for a month amdnhad the neighbour's (and their kids) come in.

Have also used https://uk.catinaflat.com on a few occasions and that's been fine.

Second this. We had a couple of cat sitters for Ken and he was none the worse for either experience. Was a bit odd to give my house keys to someone I don’t know and tell them when I wasn’t in, but in both cases was totally fine

For a long weekend we would normally just use the automatic feeders and leave a camera on. However now one of ours needs twice daily medication so that's become a lot more difficult. We've moved to a new area and don't have many neighbours, but there's a local freecycle type group where people have offered to come and feed the cats. The first time we had someone round the cat immediately threw up some grass on the doormat for them. So kind.

Check with your local vet about cat sitting services.
Our cat sitter is one one of the veterinarian assistants and she's great.

I went away for two days and asked the cleaner to feed Celeste as she was coming on the second day anyway. My cleaner can't read very well so didn't really understand the instructions (I should have messaged her pictures of exactly what needed doing) - came home to find she had filled the wet food bowl with water and filled the dry food bowl to the brim. Celeste was grumpy that she had not had any wet food but she acts like that 1 minute after dinner time anyway.
When I go away over the summer I guess I will ask a friend to come and stay, or drop by once/twice a day. Most of my friends are very local.

Fanks for all the info. Think we’ll get an auto feeder and ask some local friends to pop by each day. He’s only wee so is on four feeds a day just now.
