As DJ and MV both say above, Thomson seatposts slip. I had the same problem years ago, but I think mine is so undersized it's actually a 26.8 marked incorrectly as a 27.2.

Small sample size, but I have 4x Thomson posts in two different marked sizes, made 10 years apart, and they’re all bang-on...
I'm sure that will be the case most of the time, but there also seems to be a lot of people that do have issues.
