I'm not sure it's right to say he's disappeared. From what I've read, Trump is still fairly politically active. At least still heavily influencing Republican senators. Disappeared from social media maybe but I suspect the decision to be keeping his head down in terms of interviews is his own while he regroups and figures out what's next.
From a PR point of view, being seen as an agitator this early on in the Biden presidency would not work well imho.
