Arh, nice that makes sense, cheers

My hope is that its there to make shortening the hose easier
Usually the quickest way is to disconnect from the caliper and chop it but with that you won't have to remove the wheels or the brake pads to avoid contamination, so yeah it will make it easier, even though it's just designed for swapping brakes for British weirdos.

No, SRAM now has these built in to all their AXS HRD levers, it means the lever doesn't lose any fluid if you take the hoses off and can normally get away without bleeding as long as you don't flick the hoses around too much.

If you buy a prefilled kit from Shimano this is where the joint is with the olive and nut pre-inserted. See the bottom of the first photo:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174563306705Not sure why they do this rather than doing the same on the lever directly.
You need to check whether the nut installed on the connector is the same as the nut on back of the lever. If it is you can just whip the extra section out. If not you'll need to cut out the olive and barb and re-terminate it.

re: pads
Looking at replacement pads, I gather Uberbike are excellent ... what's the basic difference between their pad types: semi-metallic, sintered, Kevlar, Race Matrix? What does it all mean!? I want low squealy, not too grabby. -

... I'd rather wear out pads than rotors tbh, so softer is better right?

Which disc brake compound?
We offer 4 different compounds in our disc brake pads, each offering different levels of brake performance. Are you looking for performance or long life from your disc pads? Which compound is best suited for you? Below is a description of each compound to help you select the right pad for your riding style and conditions.
Semi Metallic - This compound provides high power, consistent performance, quick bedding in time, and a strong initial bite. Good value all purpose pad for a wide vareity of riding styles.
Kevlar - Race spec compound with high strength Kevlar fibres to reinforce the pad compound for longer pad life. Suitable for riders who prefer the feel of organic pads, but require improved brake performance and extended pad life.
Sintered - This compound provied powerful braking, especially in abrasive weather conditions, and offers the highest level of longevity. Use when extended pad life and durability under the most demanding conditions is required.
Race Matrix- Custom compound with a unique blend of metals and friction material, which is higher friction coefficient than our other pads, offering increased durability over our Semi Metallic and Kevlar pads, whilst boasting the highest level of stopping power in our range

ah. thanks. soz for being a silly and not searching the site.
Still, as usual the marketing is full of boywords.
What's the lowdown I wonder. maybe it doesn't really matter at my 'level'. i.e. pathetic

Turns out they have an 'ebike/enduro' one too. Whatever enduro means.
-
• #7461
You'd be best served with semi-metallic.
-
• #7462
Yup
-
• #7463
i dont understand the difference in any of these. can't they just plot a matrix with longevity vs brake power/feel or something
-
• #7464
Ah but that would require data rather than the subjective semantics of feel

Does anybody know if I can use Sram Rival 1 hydraulic shifters with Force post mount calipers?
Thanks

Yo, I got a new wheel set and new center lock rotors neither of which came with lockrings. Phoned about 6 bike shops today none of which had any, anyone know somewhere in southeast that would likely have them / be open on a Sunday!?

Yes you can, it’s just a case of making sure you have the right connections on the hose.

How long is the reach on shimano r785 levers vs r9170.
On this image it seems like they are the same, but on other places on the net people write the r785 is 5-10mm longer to the upturned hood.

I guessing that ultegra r8070 has the exact same shape as dura-ace r9170

-
• #7470
It's pretty easy to do without.
-
• #7471
I want it easier but i will grab a business card and use that.
-
• #7472
Just do it by eye and/or ear.
-
• #7473
i saw this advertised on facebook (lol) and bought one. drop shipped straight from China. works really well though and less faf than grabbing old cards/whatever

Linky dink ?

such a rip off for what it is, but does work very well
does it impact brake feel at all? it is an interesting concept
