With less gold being mined then basically anything with a level of scarcity is being bought up. Traditionally you would hold 5-10% of your wealth in gold but not sure that’s the case anymore. The wealth classes has swelled massively in the last 5 years, outstripping gold production/availability and they’re investing their money in art, watches, classic cars etc over traditional assets. See also crypto.
Aaaanyway I’m off to buy some nfts instead

Yeah, the number of people buying up vintage porsche stock here has become noticeable even in just the last twelve months in Los Angeles. I see twice as many on the road as I did a year ago.

I'm surprised if it's for investment purposes.
Or is it more that driving an old Porsche is more ostentatious than a lambo?

It's got more cachet, so yes - could well be for reasons of showing off, and I suppose likely is for many. Harder to buy, harder to live with an older 911 - and harder to look after, so it's not all rosy.
Easy to lose money if you buy badly, but then you may evade the depreciation (and even catch some appreciation) with a '72 oil flap car that you won't get with a run of the mill Lambo.

Not saying it's for investment purposes specifically, just that the purchase of toys has gone up a lot.

K-shaped recovery I guess.

Plus west coast is a different beast - VC money has just turned things nuts.

What’s forum opinion about the new Black Bay chrono ?

Not a fan of the fake rivets

Looks nice, good size, you can probably buy one... but is a bit of a weird mashup of a (mostly) sports Chrono and a dive watch.

They suck. They look and feel really cheap in person too. Worst bracelet on a ‘premium’ brand watch.

I blow hot and cold on a Tudor GMT, I’d probably put it on a strap due to the rivets, but buy it on the bracelet just so I had one. I suspect that I’d not wear it that much though, which has prevented me from getting one.

i go on and off of chronos, that does not sway me back to the flock.

@hacha Tried it on when it was released, I though it was great and actually better in person. I feel that the black makes it wear smaller than the specified dimensions. The sub-dials always looked flat on the steel and gold version to me but they are highlighted much better on this version for me. The bracelets have always been annoying rivet wise but you'll for get about them in 5 minutes.
Would definitely recommend going to try. Not tried the opaline version but think it would wear bigger due to the white dial and many say the hands are not very legible.
I'm very temped myself.

The snowflake covers the subdials... Stupid design flaw.

New watch and phone camera day after visiting an actual real shop! Very nearly went for a blue Pelagos but this edged it.

Nice, I was planning to try the blue Pelagos and BB on with a view to not buying either.
What pipped the BB over the Pelagos for you? -
• #54498
That looks lovely!

I wonder if more people working from home, has just meant you are seeing more people actually using their classic cars, rather than only having a chance at the weekend...
As far as early 70's 911's, I had zero problems with the couple I had, they were ridiculously reliable, and very easy to maintain..
Think buying badly probably applies to any old cars, maybe more so now, as prices are all a bit crazy..

Weight/feel and overall visual balance on my wrist (which is why I wanted to try both in person).
I could get away with the Pelagos (and would consider a ‘cheap’ one second hand) but I will wear the BB much more.
I think an ultimate BB would have the hour markers and blue of the Pelagos but maybe that would spoil it.
Well I think that's the move they're making with Tudor. As far as I'm aware they've never made a move to precious metals like they have with the most recent releases.
I mean 12K is not a Tudor target market price point, that's a mid to higher end Rolex price point, obviously not that the Rolex watches are obtainable. I think that by making this move as gold is now on the up again watch wise, they want to sit Tudor higher up than its currently sitting in the market to then make an even more substantial jump regarding Rolex prices. I think it won't be long till subs hit 10K steel wise and then precious metal variants will be much higher again.
I think that's their strategy to gain more clients that give the brand more of its prestige back, rather than any and everyone trying to get hold of hot models to turn a quick profit.
Was reading some stuff here the other week, think it's all US based and a little out dated:
