  • So it now emerges that Ed Woodward and ManU had a meeting with Johnson (the Tory leader) a few days before the ESL announcement, in which they outlined their plans. He was neutral on the issue.

    That is, until he saw the public mood and shifted his view to the extent that he claims to have been responsible for putting the kibosh on it.

  • He presumably went home after the dinner, and wrote two speeches, for and against the idea. Just to be prepared for the public reaction.
