• As Phil says, yes pretty much (genuinely intrigued to know what you thought they were for).
    I've never bothered with a second cable though.
    When I use one I usually manage to get a D-lock through the frame, wheel and round whatever I'm locking it do in one go, then loop the cable through a wheel and thread one end of it through the other and link the end up to the D-lock.

    This must be the most commonly derailed thread on the forum.

  • Just thought that a padlock through each cable would mean three cuts needed to ride off on the whole bike, rather than one as it is now. Sorry for the D-rail. :)

  • I’d hazard a guess that with most tools it would take longer to get through a decent D-lock than 3 little padlocks.

    Tbh, it doesn’t really matter. If a thief really wants your bike, they’ll get it. it’s the opportunists you’re best protecting yourself from.

    I just try to lock it better than the person next to me.
