Thanks - that’s a good read.
To sum up: Wideboy Italian owner x American stupidity = embarrassment all round.

Ed Woodward is going to have a great story to tell about those fucking oddballs once he gets out of Old Trafford.

I think the level of incompetence in football club admin is well known. This should come as no surprise to anyone, clubs are run by idiots.

Len Shackleton, who has died aged 78, called his autobiography, not inappropriately, Clown Prince Of Soccer. It became famous for a chapter headed The Average Director's Knowledge Of Football and consisting of a blank page.

Shows just how detached some directors owners are from everyday level of the sport/business they are involved in. As said up thread a simple investigation, press release to test the waters would have shown what stupid idea it was. Abramovich has to take some of the blame Buck has to shoulder most.

yep. so much this.
A lot of people patting themselves on the back -

most players just want to protect their wages. All those players at the non big six clubs would be shitting themselves that they would be losing the big wages if TV deals collapsed or were rewritten at lower prices. Most of the players at the big six clubs would happily play in a ESL if the fans hadn't come out against it.

Fair play to posh boy Patrick
Bamford for saying the same thing on Monday night. -

Jonny. Although the ESL is dead in the water, the real issue is now how the game will be reformed. UEFA, FIFA, the FA and the Premier League as well as the way in which football clubs are owned and run need to change and, if nothing else, this episode should act as a catalyst for change. It is vital that those with an interest in football, whether armchair, down the pub or on the terraces supporters, think through the possibilities and express their views. If they don't only the bloated self interested bastards who have set out to exploit us and the game will.
And so, in response to your final question, I and many others do.

surely now we can get rid of Allardyce?! club is going to be in a desperate position next season wondering why it wasted money on him and his loan players while looking for a manager in the Bilic category. A man that could work wonders with little budget and average squad players. You cant make this shit up

what we have heard over the last few days though is fans of the big six continually heaping praise on themselves for uniting and saving football because they just love those cold wet Tuesday night games at stoke and want to play in a league that gives clubs like west brom a chance to win trophies and live the dream while completely forgetting that their clubs have been making sure the whole set up benefits them and gives all the other clubs little to no chance of ever succeeding if we cant find our own billionaire despots or Arab absolute monarch who wants to promote hic country for the post oil future. I haven't heard anybody suggesting a Cl with more slots for Romania or Czech republic and a reduction in places for the English or the Italians. I havemt heard any fans asking for Sky TV deal money to be distributed more equally. I think the other 86 footlball clubs in this country missed a big opportunity to get rid of the bent 6 and prosper without them.

We shouldn't forget that football fans helped create this madness. If people had turned their backs on a more commercial game it would have starved.

I’m all for an actual CL tournament, with only the league champions participating in a round robin format. Why anyone is interested in seeing 4th placed teams etc in a “Champions League” is still beyond me.
The older European Cup kicked ass, can’t see it coming back sadly.

Football has been broken for a long time, I stopped really caring about it a long, long time ago... Still love my club but even that becomes harder with each passing season, Frank and the kids rekindled some of that old feeling... Money kills everything...

Summed it up quite well so far.
