  • I'vebeen meaning to watch that Springsteen on Broadway show for a while now. I never got him when I was young. Too American for my little London suburban ears. Then when I got into rock and roll and country in my 20a I found it too sincere, bombastic and cheesy (except Nebraska natch). All a bit too Jim Steinman (RIP) for me.

I was in a band in the 00s who worshipped The Boss and I started to get it. I've always thought he was cool as fuck as a person and the songs and lyrics were great but somehow it had never translated into fandom. I saw him live a couple of times but it never really connected. Last time I saw him was in Hyde park where he brought Macca on for an encore and they jammed on some old Beatles tune for about half an hour until someone pulled the plug. Which I'm sure was the story they wanted. It was painful. I've never been so grateful. I was desperate for a pee and hearing 17 verses of I Saw her Standing There sung by two 70 year olds whist in that state and surrounded by cabbies isn't something I'm keen to relive.

I put in the category of artists I acknowledge should be totally up my street, that I totally respect and like and would like to love, but just don't.

Nick Cave was a similar thing for me for YEARS until very recently I totally flipped. I've been on a Cave bender for months now.

Weird how your brain does that.
