That would be great!
Keep an eye out for some of the obscure older ones, would be pretty neat to get one that's a bit different!
Did you get the Montypresso for the fingerboard in the end too?
In other semi-hollow type news I may have a trade on for my PRS Santana SE against a Hofner Verythin and I'm crossing my fingers it goes ahead as it's a lovely thing! Headstock and fingerboard inlays are so excellent!

I didn't, the shipping was more than the stuff so it's still sitting in a cart somewhere in cyberspace...
@fakenger35 I really like tremolo now, I miss it when it isn't there so gonna give it a go... It isn't to make it pretty, it's to make it more useful!

Probably just as easy to use India Ink for that dark fretboard vibe, it seems pretty easy to do to, just wipe it on and then wipe off again next day.

I'm a bit terrified to do it myself TBH, might let Matt's Guitar Service do it for me instead... He won't charge me much, he's a good guy...

The vibramate - is that removable, i.e. no drilling? If so I'll allow it....
-
• #11282
no drilling?
If you have to ask? š¤Ŗš
I've just seen this for the first time after a Patti Smith YouTube binge, cringed a bit at the playing at the very start (that soon gets really nice tho', lovely little delay thing he's doing) but then he stomps on the fuzz and all hell breaks loose... I had no idea The Boss could shred, fabulous clip...

I think that was regarded as the only time in history someone pulled-off a polo shirt.

That's excellant - and unexpected at the end (to me at least).
I bloody love Young Springsteen.

What a dude.

That was body glorious! I loved the intro but then I have been in a band that routinely started shows with ten minutes of ambient atmospheric stuff...
Bruce really can do no wrong though, it's actually very odd that Fender have never done a signature model...

They must have wanted to and offered - there can't be many Fenders still being played around that have more significance.
In his case I don't think it was originally a cheap pawn shop find or anything, but regardless I can easily imagine him not wanting to participate in some hugely expensive custom shop project and / or thinking his shouldn't be replicated. -

Yeah I really wonder. I can see some artists not feeling that an expensive custom shop signature model vanity project sits right with them, eg Springsteenās āworking manā / blue collar image in particular. There are a lot more signature guitars being made at the lower end of the price scale these days though, like the J Mascis jazzmaster. Maybe the money isnāt right (probably more likely the case with Keef). Who knows.

I'vebeen meaning to watch that Springsteen on Broadway show for a while now. I never got him when I was young. Too American for my little London suburban ears. Then when I got into rock and roll and country in my 20a I found it too sincere, bombastic and cheesy (except Nebraska natch). All a bit too Jim Steinman (RIP) for me.
I was in a band in the 00s who worshipped The Boss and I started to get it. I've always thought he was cool as fuck as a person and the songs and lyrics were great but somehow it had never translated into fandom. I saw him live a couple of times but it never really connected. Last time I saw him was in Hyde park where he brought Macca on for an encore and they jammed on some old Beatles tune for about half an hour until someone pulled the plug. Which I'm sure was the story they wanted. It was painful. I've never been so grateful. I was desperate for a pee and hearing 17 verses of I Saw her Standing There sung by two 70 year olds whist in that state and surrounded by cabbies isn't something I'm keen to relive.
I put in the category of artists I acknowledge should be totally up my street, that I totally respect and like and would like to love, but just don't.
Nick Cave was a similar thing for me for YEARS until very recently I totally flipped. I've been on a Cave bender for months now.
Weird how your brain does that.

Wow, this photo is total win, that Hofner is very pretty indeed... Half way between a Martin F65 and a 335, lovely shape... You just need a nice Android Auto/Carplay ready head unit for the Suby now!
And what's the history of Bruce's Tele? Much like @Fatberg I wasn't a Boss fan until the last ten years or so, he's such a great big jumble of mainstream cheese and down-to-earth classic songwriter, difficult to navigate sometimes...
Nick Cave on the other hand has been crap since The Birthday Party split (š¤Ŗ), first band I ever saw!! Been listening to Rowland Howard a lot lately and realised I've been subconsciously doing lots of very Rowland-ish things, he's so great... Very much regret not seeing him more times as a solo artist, I kinda dumped him when TBP split, I was sooo angry at them all for throwing in the towel, bloody teenagers, eh?

Lovely thing. Is it vintage, or one of the reissues?

Isn't the boss's telecaster an old modified esquire or something, but not modified by him, he got it from a local guitar shop.
I think there might be a bit in his autobiography about it.Edit: https://www.fender.com/articles/gear/iconic-mods-bruce-springsteens-esquire

It's incredibly utilitatian; there's something about how his shows are so sweaty (or he sticks his head in buckets of water to keep cool) he had it waterproofed with sealer and silicone gaskets and all hardware replaced with non ferous stuff to keep it going.
I've never been quite sure if I believe the bit about the drainage holes drilled around the jack. This is from tdpri, sources likely fairly uncertain!:
the '53 esquire is wired with Petillo customwound pickups(15.6k bridge,8.5k neck) thru a custom preamp(output bosst/tone control expander)the hardware is titanium, made by petillo, the neck is a medium V with the contour extending all the way to the neck pocket, this is the neck that all of his stage guitars are reshaped to fit, the neck is finished front and back with a tinted sealer that protects the neck but feels like bare wood, the fingerboard is 14" radius...he uses Petillo Precision frets on ALL his guitars, they are triangle shaped and allow for both PERFECT intonation as well as easier bending and more sustain and clarity, the nut is bone, the string trees are custom made by Petillo out of aluminum, the jackplate is square and has holes drilled in it near the corners to allow drainig of the control cavity which freqently fills up with sweat/water during bruces shows.
The decal was put in the wrong place....this guitar was originally sold as "second"....bought by a recording studio and fitted with 4 pickups and 2 output jacks.they used to charge the person who was "forced" to use it for the sessions and charge on a per track basis(the fee x 4 ) ....the studio was busted in a payola scandal and was forced to sell all of its guitars...Phil Petillo bought the guitar and several others. He sold it to Bruce in 1969 for
$185.00Source:
https://www.tdpri.com/threads/springsteen-esquire-question.4194/Edit: That $185 is about $1, 300 inflation adjusted, which seems a reasonable amount for a heavily messed about with, 15 year old partscaster guitar. That's what I meant when I said that I didn't think his guitar was one of those fairy tales where someone finds a '59 in a pawn shop for thruppence ha'penny :)

Great story...

Lovely stuff! Unexpected shred reminded me of this clip from a George Harrison tribute gig. It's all a bit ploddy and staid - too many guitarists going through the motions until at 3'30" Prince decides to tear it up and knocks it out of the park

Prince is one of the few artists I have major regret that I never saw him live when I had the chance.
Is that for the sleek, shiny, smart black 335 you bought the other week?
Gilding the lily. Don't do it.
