I've never used the speed sensors with Garmin. I just leave it GPS-based.

Same here, these days, and rely on the power meters for cadence. That's why I've got GSC-10s going spare. The only one I use these days is on my turbo bike.

I bought a Speed Sensor 2 for my track bike.
I paired it to MyWorkouts first but there is no autopause so the session averages are not moving average. I also need to re-pair for using road bike on rollers as that has wahoo speed sensor and cba doing that frequently. #firstworldproblem
To work around this I installed garmin connect to record that way instead for track bike, and it paired ok and even bumped over the ride files from that first session (split into 4 activities unlike the single session file MyWorkouts created) but didn't record (or maybe did but didn't bump across) any of yesterday's session.
There doesn't seem to be a record or start button like what strava has. It was connected by Bluetooth and also insisted I have location on. (MyWorkouts runs all via Ant+ fwiw).
How do I get it to record future sessions?
Can I set it to use Ant+ instead of Bluetooth for Garmin Connect?
Dreamland Q: Is there a way to con Garmin Connect into sensing a Geonaute hrm strap? It is also dual Ant+/Bluetooth?
Ta.

I crashed and one of the little wings on the bracket on the back of my Garmin 800 broke off. I bought one of these spare tabs which apparently you just need to super glue onto the back of the unit. https://www.merlincycles.com/raceware-garmin-tab-repair-part-104501.html
Now, before I committed to glue it I tried to test the new tab in the mount and i cant get it to turn the 90 degrees. Will it be ok once glued as I'll be able to get more leverage? Is there a better solution? -
• #4956
Replacing whole rear cover might be best?
-
• #4957
Try it with a bit more leverage such as water pump pliers or similar, they can be a little hard to turn at first. May be best to turn a few times before gluing to ensure that you do not break the bond on first use.

Thanks, will give that a go

Anyone fed up with their Garmin 530 looking to move it on?

If I've found a place (say a cafe) on Google Maps on an Android phone, what's the best way to get it as a Location to my Garmin Edge 830?
Or using a PC, if that's easier. Trying to stick cafes in for an audax, and trying to locate them on the Edge itself is painful.

probably export as kml, go to gpsvisualizer and convert to gpx, import to your edge.
on a pc on google my maps, stick all the points on a map as markers, then export the whole lot as a kml file and convert to gpx
for example,

Thanks, but I was hoping there would be a more elegant way to do it for a single location - like 'Send to / share with' the Edge over Bluetooth.
-
• #4963
there may be but it is not something I have done.
Elegant is not the first word that springs to mind with garmin.
-
• #4964
I think it can be done by installing an IQ app on the phone/Edge. But if not, I will try your method next time - thanks.

I recently bought an eTrex 32x GPS unit. Unfortunately, technical support from Garmin is nonexistent as they are not answering the phone, the web-page form on their web site does not work, and there is no email address provided to contact them.
Has anyone got tone warnings for navigation working on the 32x unit? Using the factory default settings and routes created within the unit, an initial tone is sounded when a route is ready. However, when following the route it generates visual arrows and provides text prompts on screen, but the audible Early Turn and Final Turn tone warnings are not sounded. I have tried many variations of settings --- are the tone warning beeps not available with the TopoActive Europe maps, or has this feature been removed from the 32x?
-
• #4966
When creating a route are you just setting a start and an end point?? You may need to add waypoints at the junctions to get warnings, the turns are probably being seen as via points and will not alert.
For example, the waypoint will alert but the via points will not. -
• #4967
In the Map screen I start from my current location and move the cursor to a new location, select it and click on [Go], followed by [On Road for Distance], the 32x unit then calculates a route and provides turn-by-turn visual arrows on the displayed route and text prompts in the window at the top of the map. YouTube videos suggest the turn instructions should be preceded by tone warnings (Early Turn Warning, and Final Tone Warning in the tone settings).

• #4968
Can you post one of your gpx files here? or somewhere else so that I can look at it
if the turns are via points as opposed to waypoints they probably will not alert.

As a test I instructed the eTrex 32x unit to generate a simple route in Sheffield with just a start point (St. Columba Church, Crosspool) and an end point (St. Timothy's Parish Church, Crookes). The generated GPX file is attached. Walking the 2 km route this afternoon, the unit surprised me with two early warning tones about 2/3 of the way through the route along short footpath sections, but no other audible turn warnings along the road sections which formed the majority of the route.
In addition to the latitude and longitude coordinates and names of the two route points, the GPX file has some proprietary RoutePointExtension information after each point, but I have no idea what information they contain.

This is the file in its entirety, and is a straight line, point to point. There is no transportation profile in the file.

On device routing is not garmins forte, off device routing seems to be a lot better.

Any alternatives to openstreetmap.nl? It has said "Sorry, due to server problems only country maps are currently available." for a while and I'd like to download just a custom section of 'UK Routable Bicycle' not the whole country.

I've started to run into an issue with routes on my Edge Explore that I can't really work out. My usual steps are to plan a route on Ride With GPS, export the GPX and import that into Garmin Connect, then I'll use the app to get the route onto the unit.
I've never had an issue with this method but recently some routes have had odd numbers attached and the route has gone strange at some point on the ride.
First happened last month with a 200km route where at around the 160km mark that crossed over a road from earlier in the route it started to route me back up that road and along the route from that earlier point again. I stopped getting turn notifications because the garmin route thought I was on a different section, though the map and GPS were correct and still tracking properly, so luckily I was able to just follow to the line on the map for the rest of the route and I had it in my mind where it was going anyway so was ok to get on with it. I've looked at the route since and the elevation figures are way off on the unit route preview, with Garmin Connect saying it should be 1286m but the unit saying it will be 2804m which is obviously way off.
I did an ~80km route last weekend which didn't seem to have any issue and looking at the route preview the ascent matches up with what Garmin Connect says as well.
Then today I've uploaded another 200km route for tomorrow and the predicted ascent/descent is way off which makes me think the route issue might happen again. Ride With GPS says the route has 1,173m of elevation, Komoot says 930 and Garmin Connect Says 708m. The route preview on the Unit says 3643m though but also says its 204km which is correct distance wise.
Any ideas of a way to correct this. I don't actually care about the ascent/descent information, would just like to make sure the route is going to go off it again and make the last quarter of the ride stressful. -

Why use the Connect step? Can you not just drag the gpx to the NewFiles folder on it (or GPX if it's an etrex rather than an Edge unit)?
I've got 3 GSC-10s going spare if you want one or more of them. Only 2 Garmin spoke magnets and no Garmin crank magnets - I just used to use a rare-earth magnet on the end of the pedal spindle for cadence.
