Catching up on this. Things seem to have escalated appropriately.

Thankyou for building a silly bike that will look awesome. I miss these kind of builds.

This is going to be great. You definitely need to find some yellow decals for the wheels.
-
• #132
You would not believe, but they are on their way 😬
Will be challenging to determine the right amount of yellow highlights on this build (yellow tyres? Yellow outers?)
@jono84 @greeno cheers, much appreciated!
@Sig_Arlecchino Ha! took a while until i got that one 🐌

Updated Black Lightning, love this too. Narrowly missed out on an OG black lightning frame recently, it’s my fave colour way

I recently saw a complete bike with the OG black/gold record group for sale in the US and was tempted, but somehow the paintjob is a bit over the top imho
-
• #138
Yeah, the 1989/80 version is much more subltle imo, less crazy gold logos

Strong post. What stem are you going with? Can’t quite make it out

4 Spinergy? Dang! You put me to shame!
Looking forward to this build, very impressive.

Cheers guys, doing my best to satisfy my and everyone else‘s early 2000 suicide build cravings
Its a SHOGUN zero, almost identical to the coda stems from back then. Has an integrated steerer bolt plus a removable face plate. Sadly, it could be a few degrees steeper, so not sure whether this is staying
Well it was a struggle to find a decent pair (for decent money) in the first place but then a second offer came in with OG decals and 300.000 serial number so i couldnt resist (in particular as I got each pair for approx 250€)
I will chuck both on the finished bike to see whether the dark or the decaled version suits the build better (guessing the first one to be it)

Oh and progress update
I think it was a good decision to go with the carbon DA 7800 crank instead of the OG codas as imho they fit the bill much better together with the forks and the wheels.
Gives the whole thing a slightly darker touch together with the carbon levers and the black sidewalled vittorias instead of the OG tanwalled
Whatya think?

So much envy right now. Cranks very much yes and agree on the tyres too. It all looks good to me.
Reach on those bars looks looong but could be the angle...
-
• #145
Thanks m8
I think the long reach is a combination of angle and stem, as the bars are Nitto m109AA compacts and hence they cannot be the reason
The stem was advertised as 120mm but when I unboxed it, it became clear that this was measured when its positioned upwards
Hence, as installed it is 135mm. Close to cipollinis choice of 140mm, but aesthetically not very pleasing
Ill switch to something in 110mm asap

Speaking of details, situation on the stem also got a bit better in the meantime

Pro vibe stem?
The best part of a build:
Unboxing things
Except for Nitto M109AA bars and DA 7800 BRs, everything else is on its way, too
(Except tyres)
much excite
