Gravel thread.
My request for a 56-18 cassette is still pending arrival of new MTB.

Lovely build. I wasn't a fan but that colour looks much nicer than on the All-City website.
It's such a fun bike to ride. -

Yeah, it’s a Straight Cut one. Think Ross does them as a custom job, best to email him and find out.
These were the three routes we did, the other two days was just riding out to and from Loch Earn from Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Rannoch Ripper

Lyon Loop

Finglas “Fuck-You-Up”

The Rannoch one is seriously punchy as there’s a huge hikeabike across a bog in the middle. We had to cut out the last 15 or so miles of gravel and blast along the tarmac or we would have been in danger of getting back at midnight. Also, there’s fuck all food stops along the way so you’ll have to carry all your food. Plenty of burns for water.

Cheers, same to be honest the root beer kola or whatever it’s called looked loads better but I’m really happy with how it’s turned out, looks much better built up. Something different. I managed to snag the last 58 in the country, would have been happy even if I didn’t end up liking the colour 😂

I got my hands on one of the root beers in 55, but seeing your photos...
Either way, it's one of the most fun bikes I've ridden!

Ah that’s good to hear. Ye it was funny, people at work were rinsing me for the tacky gold frame then now they’ve seen it built up they’re like wahhhht. It’s really come together well and like I said it’s something different that I would have never thought of.
I had my heart set on something 29x2.1 but rode one recently and it felt a bit barge like. There’s quite a lot of rocky rooty stuff I want to ride and thought it might be a hard to handle with the big wheels and slow handling. I had been in a bit of a dilemma so when I saw this an realised I had everything I needed aside from mech, cassette and chainring I jumped on it.
Really looking forward to the first ride!
Let’s see yours then.

That looks so good! I've just moved up to Edinburgh and feel a trip coming on...

They need to make a 42-15T cassette or similar.
Agreed. That 11t start is so arbitrary.

Thanks - that's really helpful. Time to start planning some trips.
@Stoo61 - that link works thanks - will have a look at that website for some ideas.
@cozey - I looked at the Dukes Weekender map for the my initial plan. Apart from that my other thought was to ride from Callander to Killin mainly to ride over that railway bridge out of Lochearnhead.
I didn't realise Gravelfoyle was a real thing either!

I had misunderstood what compact means...

fridge full of blood bags
With a 34x40 low gear you could take that up the mountain with you. For later. With cold beers.

I've gone lower gearing still. Steeper, looser, rockier climbs in a more fukt state, lower is better.
Still not as low as the MTB though. 50+ cassettes ftw ;) -

Is this the place where I should say I've got a lowest gear of 34 x 46 and made frequent use of it on the South Downs Way at the weekend? Why wouldn't you want really low gears when you're tired?
Maybe the conversation has moved on. Anyway am really just posting this to encourage @amey to check his PMs as I presume posting here guarantees he'll see it...

it's because there is an uneasy truce in this thread between the the lycra warriors and the flannel commandos, gearing, tyre choice, frame material, it stresses this truce.

I would love a lowest gear of 34 x 46 and I’m not ashamed to admit it
