  • lol is it a 29? Then Rocket Ron.

  • I was only involved in this build on more of a philosophical level.

  • Vittora makes latex tubes for 29er sizes. That is not going to replace a good tyre, but a step in the right direction.

  • Really thought it was 26. Now I don't know why.

  • It's because it looks exactly like a 26er.

  • Nah, I'm terrible with eyeballing frame and wheel sizing. I thought I'd read it. Fuck knows what I was looking at then. Probably gravel thread nonsense.

  • Anyway, could 'ghetto tubeless' the bike but I don't know if that would make it feel faster. My gravel bike still feels fucking slow with 2" tubeless tyres. It's the nature of the knobby beast.

  • laughing at how often people confuse this for a 26r in pictures, the bike is massive irl,

when i try to turn it around standing still i sort of have to shimmy it bit by bit to get it to rotate as the standover is pretty much my whole inseam

Thank you for all the tyre recommendations, i am no tyre denier (previous vittoria corsa and gp5000 owner, lover, promoter) i just feel it's a marginal gain here in the bikes current role.

gen 2 of the build will have some nicer ones, i'm sure

  • Tyres are the most important part of a bike, you should buy and try them all.

  • Or cut to the chase by buying the most expensive ones to start with

  • agreed.
bikes are so much better with tyres.

  • +1 on tyres being important
on my similar build I loved continental speed kings and race kings, they're nice zippy all rounders
if you don't need tubeless you can get the cheap ones which are still p good

  • You mean screw extractors?
Personally I’d rather get the dremel out than having to drill a 1mm hole in a m5 bolt made of hard steel that is stuck in a bike with risk of the drill slipping :)

Best long term solution is probably to have another bolt added so it’s clamped down by two bolts like a stem, but that would require some more Montana action.

Liked the long update but I am going to join the choir on the tyres. Those double fighters are almost one kg each, and I felt exactly like amey described it when I first read it.

Get some 2” race kings/g ones with latex tubes.

  • Ignore the masses. Just hop on the bike and enjoy the ride, which you are!! So ride on cowgirl

  • No tyres is lighter.

  • Good advice, using a dremel never occurred to me, was imagining using some larger hardware and risking the frame!

In regards to tyre talk you’re all giving very convincing arguments, however the most convincing argument to me right now is my shed is full of old bike parts, seatposts, saddles, wheels, tyres and handlebars.

Adding another set of barely used tyres to the pile is not sparking joy

Maybe this is the motivation to finally clear it all out, I’ve ordered some bubble wrap and mailing bags this afternoon, ill make a for sale post in the coming days for the random, now unused stuff I’ve hoarded building 2 bikes

  • Mr Gwin was onto something for sure.

I think Big Tyre™ must've shut him up. It's Nikola Tesla all over again!

  • Do what I do, ride excessively just to show them how much you hate them and then fit a new set.

Actually, what I'd do would be fit a new set and hang onto the old set for 3 years and then find another bike to put the old set on and THEN wear them out.

  • I think it would be easiest to cut the slot after you've removed the bolt from the bike.

  • Another vote for conti speed kings here. I've just put mine back on for summer. Change the bike loads even moving from a fastish xc tyre I use in winter. Not cheap, but certainly quick.

  • right now is my shed is full of old bike parts, seatposts, saddles, wheels, tyres and handlebars.

    ebay £1 seller fee weekend

Also on principle I refuse to 'buy' packaging for the crap I sell, just reuse (if you can).

  • I like how everyone is so upset because she said big tires drag on road. They do, that's why people race on absurd skinny tires pumped to feel like you're riding on wood.
    She doesn't care, move on.

  • But... but ... jan heine said...

  • reuse

I have so many paper bags and old packagings for this very purpose in a box in the shed.

The clearout is very cathartic and satisfying. Plus you know you've helped someone else's build. I saw the marathon supremes i sold on @passhunting 's space horse the other day (on here) and it was a good day.

I have a vague idea there is somewhere you can donate parts to as well?
