Don't buy that. Worst case scenario is absolutely fucking terrible, best case scenario is it's a money pit costing a few grand a month.

Still leaves two fairly fundamental problems. Lack of go at anything not approaching the redline, and a user interface which makes wrist-slitting seem like the only obvious way out.
RS6 on the other hand...

Maybe I should put a Recaro bucket in the E63

I did quite a few 1000km journeys in my e61, always got out feeling good*. Maybe borrow one to try. If you're thinking m5.
- Disclamer: this is not an endorsement and I take no responsibility if you don't find it comfy.

Distinct lack of ambition. Golden throne trimmed in ermine FTW.

Nice use of P5 wheels....

M5 Touring will go up in value if you keep it long enough. Worldwide only 1,025 made.

What’s wrong with the I-drive? The chunky knob thing is much better than prodding a touchscreen.

My Volvo has comfy seats...

The many many many many layers of menus. By the time you've got it to do what you want it to do, you've arrived. I'm no fan of touchscreens, mind you. That's why the Good Lord gave us buttons.

I should really have another go at finding a comfortable setting for the chair in the E63, apart from the horrible back pain it's a great car.

G63?

Would need a ladder to put bikes on the roof

Have you considered getting your back looked at? Physio, yoga etc etc.

I'm fine in basically every other car I've ever driven (or sat in), which leads me to believe it's not my back, or at least not exclusively my back.

Bikes go in the back, silly.

Have you tried pulling the steering wheel closer than you would normally, like a 50s F1 driver? Helped my back and hips.

This... is there any sort of car seat ergonomic setup wizard person you could have look at it? My aunt does it for office furniture but she'd based in Newcastle...
Alternatively there are lots of sensible looking Recaros that would look smart in the front of it if you did want to change the seat but surely Mercedes have done their homework and not put terrible seats in a £90,000+ car.

Could make a nice home for one of those extra 996 engines...

Just picked my A4 from the workshop, had the standard "stage 1" engine plus dsg tune done. It's a standard 2.0t Quattro Avant otherwise. But woah, quite a noticeable improvement. The transmission in particular now shifts properly rather than slipping the clutches in 7th gear at 50 kph. The 30-80kph sprint feels quite quick. A definite improvement in driving enjoyment. Not a bad trade for a logo design!
All of that. A mate had one (saloon) and was disappointed with the engine aside from the noise. Liked the subsequent turbo versions much better. Was in the shop for hardcore gearbox work under warrantee too.
