we bought mature plants (shown above) to screen off W3.5m x H2m - cost us about 300£ (70£ plants down to 60£). planted in aug/sept 2020, and the first new shoots started coming through end-march and are already 30cm high. I think the shoots/culms grow to full height in one season maybe
not sure how long it will take to establish a hedge using the weedier plants we bought recently in a bundle

We had some Golden Bamboo in a pot and the second year a dirty great shoot shot up 7 feet easy.

Following on from earlier bamboo chat I'm pondering a stretch of bamboo plants to cover our ugly back fence. Would need to be about 4m wide and 2.5m tall and cope OK with the shade.
Seen a few places that sell bundles of plants for this purpose but they all tend to be about 1m tall. How quickly does bamboo grow, would we be waiting years for it to get tall enough, also how quickly would it fan out to cover horizontally? Cheers
