  • Nice video. Very hard for me to watch because I know that engine so well! I thought it sounded like a very mild tune, could be the PD pipes. Still can't understand why people lose their shit for the GS version in any case, at least he's using it off road from time to time.

  • Chinesium levers arrived. Pretty expensive, £20 from China, but they are impossible to find for that front master cylinder.

Finally some adjustment on the clutch side. Mostly bought for the length, just slightly shorter than stock. I’m so used to short levers on the DR.

  • That, and the play between the brake lever and bush was buzzing wildly and driving me mad.

  • Need to teach the friend to stand closer. Cropped, there is zero resolution, but you get the idea.

  • Anyone's insurance gone up for this year?

  • Are they any good PD? Thinking of ordering a set for my little race bike.

    (The levers)

  • They get mixed reviews, but I’m happy with them. TL:DR - would recommend, ymmv but go for it.

I had a set on the GN for ages and was quite happy, until I dropped it on that green lane. I quiksteel/jb welded it back together and carried on for weeks or months until I put pivot/snapback pit bike levers on.

You need to tighten all the adjustment bolts so they don’t rattle, and as a result the length adjusters have more resistance. That’s good, because one complaint is the can jump out of adjustment (never happened to me, cos I torque bolts).

They will snap if you crash them, but for the price they are fine. I’d sooner buy three sets of these than something identical and more expensive. ASV etc? I could buy these ten times.

I actually have a few ‘universal fit’ sets, which are going spare (no idea what bike they fit), bought in case I snap one at the adjuster and can still swap out the lever part.

The finish on this set seems a little better than the ones I have bought previously. They came in FXCNC packaging.

I finally tested them on the XJ yesterday after greenlaning the DR. The levers transformed the XJ and it was a joy to ride. Reach, clutch point, even action were all much improved. Action felt lighter, probably from more comfortable hand position, and my shifting was smoother as a result. No issues grabbing a handful of front brake either, which was inevitable in weekend traffic.

They are kind-of ‘three finger’, by the way, where the knobbly end bit is where my little finger would sit. They are easy to use two-finger on the brake.

  • Thanks matey. Should work fine for me - more than two fingers on an RS chassis and you're going over the bars anyway. The cheap appeals.

  • I saw a guy at the motorcycle mechanics and he said “you nearly caused an accident yesterday”.

I got really worried - he started to laugh. He put my cunt sticker on the back of his track bike and did a track day yesterday.

Someone came up to him in the paddock and said they nearly crashed because of it. They saw it and started laughing so hard they almost fell into a ditch.

  • Has this sticker featured in the thread?

  • So far around £100 worth sold to raise money for Wiltshire Air Ambulance

  • They look quality, good cause too.

  • They were sold on-here, and also going as gifts during some sticker selling activities previously.

People (bikers) really loved them, so I made around 100 or more in a few colours. Guy at the mechanics is selling on my behalf, with every penny going to charity. I think he chose to sell at £2 each rather than the usual £2.50-£3 I often ask. He’s active in the local biker community so well-placed to disseminate them effectively.

For the few hours work and small material cost, it’s good to make some money for the WAA.

  • I can honestly see myself sticking them on other peoples bikes more than my own but you're right, it's a good thing to do with your time.

I am thinking in central london this will be attracting quite a lot of attention.

  • Does the c'u'n't stand for anything clever or just for attention? Can totally see myself also sticking them on people who I don't know's bikes's (know's!!???), rear mudguard, inside of plastics where they won't spot it, but others will :P

  • Currently, I can’t even think of an acronym to pretend it does!

  • Inside legshield of the Lambretta

  • @pdlouche got anymore to sell?

  • Tried some helmets on yesterday evening. I was initially set on Shoei as I had a good experience with their helmets before. This time around however, the Arai actually fit better than the Shoei.

Tried a number of brands, Shoei, Arai, AGV & HJC.

Eventually came down to the Shoei X-Spirit III vs the Arai RX-7V and I favored the Arai, unfortunately enough for my wallet. I have yet to make a decision but I'm really digging this one, which is last year's IoM limited edition.

  • Did some maintenance before going out today. CLA’d the chain before riding around 120 miles to Helmet City and back.

I forgot to mark exactly what the odo reading was when I bought it, 13207 maybe? When I refuelled on the way home it was already past a grand. So, from purchase on 26th March until 23rd April I have succeeded in putting over a thousand miles on the bike.

So I can’t hate it that much!

  • Exactly the same here. I was running the Spirit and NXR (Still have the NXR, weight is unbeaten) but recently went for an XD4 for the other bike and I couldn't be happier.
    Fit is just spot on.
However, after running it all winter, I can say the build quality of the soft bits is more resilient on the Shoei.
Anything hard is better on the Arai.

IOM looks nice. At least it's not a 46...

  • Took a little while to remember how to ride it, after all it’s been sat since last Sunday!!

Great few hours on some unfamiliar lanes, and a few familiar ones as well. Confidence is increasing little by little, and risks are being taken.

It’s strange to glance at the speedo and see the dial dance around 40mph on lanes that I was deathgripped at 15mph 12 months ago.

After a week of really loving pushing the limits of the tyre on the XJ, and leaning around corners, it was great to remind myself how much more fun slow technical dirt can be.
