Half answer: try some graphite or carbon shafts and see what you think. I personally don't get on with them.
If you're a big hitter you might find that they flex too much during your swing. I use oversized steel shafts by Wilson for relative stiffness.
You can get stiff composite shafts but they are really spendy.
