  • Another budget steel build from me.
    It started like this:

    minus bars, pedals and saddle

    First build was:

And then with loop bars and a crosscheck fork:

It's getting an overhaul, hopefully into a relatively classy (for me) commuter. It's just a brief for now, no concrete plans, so let's see where it goes.

    Cheers for looking ✌️

  • Edit. Sorry, wrong thread.

  • Think I saw this locked up at Stretford Foodhall earlier?

  • You did! Funemployed for a couple more weeks so joined the gym to help occupy myself.
This is also the reason this turned out to be the most pointless cp thread: no money for bits

  • The pompino briefly had this lovely all-city fork from @Cupcakes

But with shoes coming apart from the sole and a ride to Liverpool coming up brakeless wasn't particularly appealing.

Payday #1 will bring the bits for a disc front wheel, maybe dynamo if I can stretch to it. Sticking to silver rims, but won't be anything fancy.

  • So this is how it stands:

Brake spring broke on aforementioned ride to Liverpool, which got bodged:

Distressingly enough the colour is growing on me

  • ready to be singlespeeded for winter, just need to find my other brake nood. Might race cross? Might just take it to the park. Probably need a slightly shorter stem.

  • Might race cross?

    Do it.

  • What model is the fork? Any chance you might want to get rid of it?

  • It's an all city of some sort, maybe a macho man disc? It's staying in my cupboard for now though, I have a plan for it for when my bank balance is a bit happier

  • Didn't singlespeed it. Tbh hated it for a while until I adjusted the saddle angle for the lower bars with more reach. Took it on a cx ride yesterday and had enough fun that I've convinced myself it's staying for a while and have started digging into plans for the fork and wheel swap.
Not sure whether I'll go road or offroad but can cross that bridge later

  • Been an expensive summer so hub, rim and fork are sat around waiting for some free cash but tbh the bike is doing pretty well as is, alu fork and all. Nicked the levers for the surly so put the alpkit loop bars back on and quite liking them.

  • Ignore the brake cable, I left plenty on so I can throw the basket on easily if I fancy

  • Summer tyres on, front one almost looks slick?

  • Yeah they're the same front and rear! 35c contact sports. Nice cheap tyres

  • Embracing my 30s or a cry for help? You decide.
Closing this thread, will consolidate into a single cp
