Which Groupset?

  • Total groupset weights are a bit deceiving. Some include rotors, some don't, none include all the Di2 gubbins. Should be about force but with a heavier crank, just like Rival 11 speed.

  • And then there's a clutch in the derailleur, and that adds a good chunk. I'd expect Shimano adding clutches to road derailleurs next generation.

  • clutches to road derailleurs

Why? It's not like chain slap is a thing on the road whereas speed generally is.

  • Oh it definitely is. Having stuck an XTR on the back of my road bike I’m enjoying the silence and not mourning the couple of watts loss in efficiency (or the lack of front derailleur…)
Some of the roads down this way are questionable mind.

  • Ah, well if you fit 1x to a road bike then that's your own fault. I don't have chain slap issues on my 2x road bike, even with silly 11-42T cassettes. Certainly not enough to want to tighten my chain up, increase wear and decrease efficiency.

  • Thigh gap compensated and filled the gap though.

  • That's by design: heat generation for the mountains.

  • 2478g for 105 hydraulic, so more like 700g heavier.

£400 quid more RRP than a mechanical groupset including a power meter?

Ultegra di2 disc is £1000 more than its mechanical disc version.

Bike component prices are nuts though, I fondly remember getting ultegra 6800 full groupset for £440...

  • ultegra 6800 full groupset for £440...

Heh, that’s what I got my r8000 groupset for at end of 2019.

  • Trying to think who the person is who wants a cheap power meter but is ok paying £130 for a cassette and loves some extra weight

  • Also £1650 rrp for etap force HRD without cassette, cranks, chain etc, so significantly cheaper than all other electronic groupsets.

I’m not in the market, as I will be hoarding Sram etap 11 for as long as they exist, but they have filled a hole in price point.

You want a a 2x groupset on your mid tier electronic only frame for sub £2500?

  • People that think they need a powermeter but don't ride enough to wear out a cassette, aka every MAMIL on the planet.

  • Isnt it a shit one sided PM too? Stages is similar pricing.

In regards to pricing overall; £100 cassette isnt that much with brexit, supply issue and its the latest (12 speed)

The deore 12 speed cassette is similarly priced.

Also weight; have we compared ultegra di2 hydro disc weight? All disc stuff is heavy.

  • Damn, the nodders and Freds getting swindled again :(

  • Piddcock single handedly keeping rim brakes alive.

  • Nobody really uses thier power meters though, do they? Not beyond going "oh 240w this week, that's good"

They've become like HRMs and Cadence. Just another thing to have recorded so you can fill the boxes in your Strava account.

  • 'This is for Americans' is the only thing that Rival eTap makes me feel.

  • I use mine for pacing during races and for building training load before events so yeah, very heavy user up until maybe 12 months ago. That's why Hutch commented on my lovely negative split 24hr pacing all those years ago. Actually even last year I used it loads indoors for Trainerroad.

My new MTB won't have one though. #sadface

  • Yeah but you're not the target market for this. The ven diagram of Rival eTap Power meter owners and subscribers to Golden Cheetah is gonna be. ⭕️ ⭕️

  • Bike component prices are nuts though, I fondly remember getting ultegra 6800 full groupset for £440...

I got a brand new R8000 groupset on here for £400 a few years back, now fully expecting to have to pay through the nose for similar for my new bike, guess it evens itself out :(

  • Absolutely this. MAMILS who think RP laps is proper racing.

  • I feel attacked.

  • You use a power meter??

  • nah but I relate to the demographic
