You've given me a new idea, drill into it at just under 90 degrees where it meets the ceiling and work up to a drill the same diameter as the pipe. Then use a dremel/multitool/hammer to tidy up the ragged end.
That's actually not bad, the hole saw suggested afterwards might be an improvement but I would suggest drilling a pilot hole for the hole saw.
