• Haven't looked up any routes yet but i'd be keen to find something that doesn't pass mild peril on the danger/skill level close to Sydenham. Going to try out CP or BPP when it's quiet to gauge how awful i am on bumpy stuff.

    Beckenham Place Park has some quite fun downhill runs through the forest, suited to tentative fixed riding as you have to take them quite slowly due to walkers anyway.

    Crystal Palace Park isn't so great for it I'd say.

    If you can get a bit further, past Bromley there start to be quite a few good bridleways and small woods to explore.

    My usual is Spring Park -> over the main road to the little forest where Croydon Rugby Club is listed on Google Maps, then around Layhams Rd, Keston and West Wickham Common there are a few marked paths and bridleways.

  • Seems like an unnecessary feature. Why not chuck em in a bag or tape them to the frame?

  • I’m guessing it’s because the bike weighs 11.5kg they’re assuming that spokes will be a wear’able item like brake pads....

    Or that it’s another way of justifying the exorbitant price given “it’s a nice colour” has run out of road

  • They're an annoying shape to pack in soft bag and bend easily. Only adds a few grams to the frame set weight and the space isn't useful for anything else. Why not?

  • Ah, good shout, have been through BPP once or twice on the CX bike. I rode ALL the way over to Richmond for a shakedown lap (and a pub lunch) yesterday. Have been wondering how much of my usual CX loop in Surrey/Kent is doable but I don't think I can be arsed with all the climbing on 46x19 currently.
    If I can find a new (144bcd) crankset and I can chuck a 44t on. Anyway, here it is. All City Big Block:

    Cinelli have been doing this for years on the hobo etc, on the hobootleg geo they put them on the fork for some reason. Makes sense on a tourer if you’re out in nowhere etc

  • Whilst that may be true, at least they have a spoke that they know is the right size available, should the closest shop or whatever not have one.

  • My old LHT had those spoke holders. Never needed them but appreciated the option for the extra little brazed on weight.
