  • Meet Freddie the 11 week old whippet. It's going to be a bit crazy round here for a while. Gigi the cat is curious, but so far so good. I'm sure it will be chaos in no time.

  • Very cute! There's quite an active dog specific thread on here as well. Lots of people giving good advice.

  • Totally gorgeous boy. Here's to them getting on famously!

  • If our experience is anything to go by, Gigi will piss on your precious things upstairs for a few months then swipe the puppy and rule the roost from that day forward, including naps in the dogs bed.

  • We have made a barrier between bathroom/bedroom and the rest of the boat. There have been hisses from Gigi but nothing worse yet. She is still using her tray and is curious about the new thing. Sits outside his crate when he sleeps and I give her a fuss. She is unsure, but we are trying to distract Freddie from her so she becomes uninteresting, at least that's the theory from puppy training stuff.

  • What's a typical lifespan? She looks quite matriarchal there.
I remember reading about a 100 year old London parrot that still quoted rude wartime lines or something, years ago, not sure if it's still around.

  • My great aunt has a golden macaw called Bomber, been alive longer than I have (37 years).

There's a woman who has a scarlet macaw she walks around Burgess Park with.

  • I think up to about 25 but we'll see. She had some bone problems due to diet which I think we've got on top of.

  • I swear that this one is a kangaroo crossed with a velociraptor. Tuesday was horrific, but the last couple of days have been much better. I'm looking forward to not being paranoid about his puppy bones breaking and him actually responding to his name. It's slow, exhausting progress. There are even nose boop moments with Gigi.

  • She's so gorgeous.

  • Just after Christmas we rescued Doris, an English bull terrier from Hungary. I suspect she was used as a bait dog to train fighting dogs, and she certainly had a lot of puppies. She’s about 5.
Sadly after 3 months of trying to rehabilitate her we finally threw in the towel and took her back to the rescue organisation we got her from. She’s a very sweet dog, but she reacted really badly to Rita if there was ever any excitement and almost killed her on 3 occasions.
Rita isn’t much bigger than a Guinea pig.
Once Doris started, Luna, who is the size of a pony steamed in.
We’re pretty heartbroken as she was a really lovely little dog.

  • This one is growing so fast! We have good days and bad, he can be such a little velociraptor at times, leaping at you and biting but it's getting better. After weeks of a bad belly which delayedhis second vaccinations, which resulted in us having to restart, we discovered he has an allergy/intolerance to chicken. We can finally get round to positive reinforcement with treats.
Gigi is doing well, with him when he is calm, but he gets a bashing when he gets all giddy. We will get there.

  • A tip I picked up from the dog thread on here to stop your puppy from chewing on you is to act like it really hurts every single time they do it. Ours stopped fairly quickly once we started doing that! He's lovely though, glad to hear he's getting on ok with the cat!

  • We tried the yelping when he bites us but that really didn't work, he just got worked up. What is working is us turning our backs on him or leaving the room, it's really started to make a differencealong with when he is not bitey he gets attention, treats and we will play.

  • Glad you've found something that works. I'm sure it'll come with time!

  • We have ours some deer antler which filed the razor sharp tips off their puppy teeth which helped until they got out of the bitey phase.

  • Funny you say that, I got him deer antler on Friday, he loves it! Between that and the paddywack he doesn't chew the sofa or us quite so much.

  • We've got a hollow antler that we can fill with peanut butter to keep Crumpet occupied for a bit! We've got her a yak's milk chew thing that's good for giving her something other than a chair to chew on as well.

  • No matter how comfortable...... always watching....... mainly to check so we don’t give the other cats more attention.

  • Your dog needs to re-centre it’s gps somewhat.

  • Some people have cats and dogs drinking from the same bowl...We have cat and dog winding each other up from various different hiding places. It's some sort of progress I suppose.
