There are definitely some compromises. For ours, insurance was cheaper than our Ford Fiesta by some margin, road tax was more though which balanced it out.
Keep in mind that vans are limited to 60 on dual carriageways and motorways in the uk. Fixed speed cameras won’t get you but mobile speed traps and average speed checks will. You used to be able to get round this with camper conversions but they have pretty much closed this route now.
Otherwise, they are just a bit more agricultural to drive. Not necessarily a bad thing, but different to the comfort of a car. Nothing beats being able to sling all your stuff in a van though.
