Nobody needs a bumper cover but for £15, you might as well.

Definitely get the bumper cover because accidents happen when you're taking stuff to the tip.
Someone at the tip offered to help my dad when he was unloading a bath, then very kindly dropped it on the bumper causing huge gouges. Had to get it filled and re-sprayed to fix it.
