Lets play spot the drivers and the sound is real.

  • these are all over NZ, the ute's are super common and not that expensive.

SWB FJ40 jeeps are a small fortune now though

  • Seems unlikely, but just in case anyone is in the market for 265/35 R19 tyres, I'm selling 2 barely used Uniroyal Rainsport 5 tyres for my dad.

They're ~£150 each new so got them on eBay at £200 BIN for both, but can do a little discount if anyone on here wants them.

  • Any recommendations for a tarpaulin for boot of the car? For trips to dump etc.

Also is there a forum approved version of Muck off for car interiors?

  • Just get one of these.

  • Oh, so it's like bikes - there is no end of the things you can spec!!

Thanks - do I need the bumper cover ?

  • I got a boot liner for the C-Max, but it's carpet, so I still just use a tarpaulin for fear of muddying my boot liner. Although, I took a peak at the back seat the other day, usually mini & ms_com's domain. That was a bad idea. Need to wheel the Henry out next time I can park next to the house.

  • Nobody needs a bumper cover but for £15, you might as well.

  • Crazy, eh? I posted a quite nice one on here a few years back that was only $10k... Oh well!

  • Did you ever post the links to the refurbed Volvo?

  • This is true.

  • Definitely get the bumper cover because accidents happen when you're taking stuff to the tip.

Someone at the tip offered to help my dad when he was unloading a bath, then very kindly dropped it on the bumper causing huge gouges. Had to get it filled and re-sprayed to fix it.

  • Well.

I have not yet because it's not been polished. It went off to Stjärnagloss but due to a few timing issues, it just had a deep clean and clay bar, but no machine polish. That still needs doing. It was supposed to go back to them but I don't know what's happening at the moment. Trying to rope a mate in who knows what he's doing.

  • It is currently looking very pink.

  • Cool cool ordered that

I went for various 303 cleaning stuff bc that’s what Reddit seemed to indicate was good

  • Cool. Looking forward to seeing the completed work.

  • I used some active wheel cleaner the other day, very satisfying to see it go all red and streaky before rinsing off.

  • General car question. I’ve had to replace a rear tyre on my Mitsubishi phev outlander due to a roadside flat, it’s a car that sometimes is 4wd depending on conditions and if it’s charged or not. I’m far away from home and none of the tyre shops where I am can sort the correct replacement before I have to drive home.

I’ve calculated the diameter difference to 24mm which is 3% more than the other three tyres. I drove for about 150 km after fitting it, the car didn’t complain. And it usually complains about everything all the time, constantly.

Will I probably get home (450 km drive) without killing the car or not?

  • I’ve never watched any of these before. Amazing stuff.

  • Yeah I overloaded myself with them when I discovered sketch monkey about a year ago. I find both the design insight and the photoshop skills fascinating.

  • I am toying with the idea of swapping my estate for a van. Am I mad?
The main draw is to be able to have a large vehicle when over in France (once that's possible again) to furnish/diy around our holiday home.
Will insurance and road tax be crippling? I know about ULEZ extension and don't really plan to drive too much into the forbidden area.
Currently paying about £110 a month combined for insurance and tax.

  • It's not ideal. Have a look on Black Circles to see if they can do mobile fitting before you head home? How far away from civilisation are you?

  • Will I probably get home (450 km drive) without killing the car or not?

Definitely. It might wear out the transmission a tad more than the journey would otherwise, but 450km isn't going to kill it. It's worth getting them replaced when you can, but I wouldn't worry about it for that distance, especially as I doubt the car has limited slip diffs on the centre or rear diffs.

  • There are definitely some compromises. For ours, insurance was cheaper than our Ford Fiesta by some margin, road tax was more though which balanced it out.

Keep in mind that vans are limited to 60 on dual carriageways and motorways in the uk. Fixed speed cameras won’t get you but mobile speed traps and average speed checks will. You used to be able to get round this with camper conversions but they have pretty much closed this route now.

Otherwise, they are just a bit more agricultural to drive. Not necessarily a bad thing, but different to the comfort of a car. Nothing beats being able to sling all your stuff in a van though.
