I have a bunch of custom power cabling that was chucked in for free by the dude I bought my Truetone CS12 from. Doesn’t make my board any neater, but that’s probably an operator issue.

Lots more to do still but it's starting to look like a thing!
Think I might need to redo the octave A and D as the tuner layout looks like it's going to be problematic and a string tree might be a stretch but it's getting there 😊

Nice. All the work you did on the body looks seamless - I can't see any indication that you'd routed there.
I hadn't appreciated quite the extent of what you were doing with the headstock. I know nothing about basses at all. This is going to be an eight string? That is to a normal bass what a 12 string is to a guitar - is that right? Are the extra tuners you've fitted banjo tuners?
-

Yep! It's got a set of lightweight Sadowsky tuners and a set of Schaller banjo tuners!
My predicament now is that if I do dowel the octave A and D and redrill them there will be no space at all for my decal which I've managed to shoehorn on so I might try and make up some Gibson Moderne style string retainers todirect the strings... bit of a cop out but it is a lot of kit on a small headstock!
Edit: I also need to sand the neck again and refinish it as I used too coarse a grit and missed a few small patches of lacquer. I'll give it a good fine sand and redo it next weekend!

Fucking hell that's some next level projecting there. Bit worried about the amount of hole on that headstock though... not much wood left between the old holes, the new holes and extra holes.. Looks bonkers fun though. Can't wait to hear it.

I've just done a rough iphone recording of the first complete song i've written in about two years and i'm really happy with it. Gonna hook up some mics and get it down while it's still fresh this week. Feels GOOD to be creating again. Need a few days of living with it to get my verrry rusty singing back to as good as it's ever gonna be.
Not only is it cathartic to be creating again, but the song is about dealing with what feels like months of recurring nightmares, sleeplessness and resulting angst. Getting that shit of your chest feels like payday for surre.

Ha. Fuck knows. Seriously, it seems like every night i fall asleep i'm signing up for some first person fuck 'em up extended dystopian nightmare involving ghosts from my past and all the associated feels. I wake up in the night with a pounding and broken heart and then lie there for hours waiting for it to get light. I have dark circles carved into my face and am feel like i'm zombie stumbling through real life being haunted by the nightly flashbacks. It's fucking shit. Wait... sorry this is the guitar thread.
Ummm... definitely gonna flog the Guild. Just need to figure out how to restore the finish first.

This all sounds terrifyingly familiar, hope you're good, buddy... Great news about the new tunes!
PS Just checked where the 335 is on the DHL tracker and it looks like it's out for delivery today... Fingers crossed it arrives in one piece...

Know that feeling mate. Good work on the song!

It's arrived! Got a neck like a cricket bat but it plays very nicely in spite of that... The marks on the back look like case fur or stand rubber in the nitro, I managed to get some off my Kalamazoo with isopropyl alcohol so gonna try that... Very OTT purchase but it's lovely sounding, feels like a very grown-up guitar for a garage basher like me...

I'm not that happy with the horrible plastic truss rod cover on my Taylor or the sticky backed plastic pickguard that they sold me to put on it.
So I've bought myself some very nice bits of desert ironwood (beautiful material, once it's finished the lighter parts look almost metallic and the darker sections get much lighter) with the intention of making myself a new pickguard and new truss rod cover.
If I make these and put them on the guitar (I'm thinking mostly of the pickguard as it will have to be stuck on) will I cause myself issues with Taylor if it has to go back for warranty reasons?

If you have to send it back, just change the truss rod cover? Pickguard is a bit trickier.

Back in Feb I bought a Keeley Caverns V2 second hand. I'm a big fan of it, but annoyingly the delay side stopped working after a couple of weeks for reasons unknown.
I emailed them expecting to have to pay the repair fee plus postage both ways (pretty much most of what the pedal cost me), but it turns out they honour their warranty even if you're not the original owner. I only had pay outgoing postage to the US, and they fixed it and got it back to me super quickly.
Credit where credit's due, quite impressed with Keeley, I'd probably buy more of their stuff again (assuming the Caverns doesn't break again...)
The cabling is a bit of a dog's dinner, I don't know how the professionals manage it... They probably make custom power cables, way beyond my pay grade!
The 335 is already in Sydney, estimated to arrive in Queensland on Friday... It'll be here before I know it, will be nice to have the whole weekend with it...
