• When it comes to kamados in general the actual 'egg' itself is pretty much identical whichever one you get (apart from the metal ones) as they're all made in the same factories in China. What you're really paying for is the finish on the vents and the accessories. Big green and Joe are by far better than the rest out of the box but they are a hell of a lot more expensive. In the end I went for the Costco (louisiana grills) one as it was the same size as the big Joe (bigger size really comes in handy for standard bbq when you have a lot people over) , came with a deflector plate and a double grill and was £650 compared to 2 grand. The finish on the bottom vent is a bit rough and I had to add some felt to the top vent to stop it leaking, I also bought a thermoworks temp control system so it is pretty much flawless now and I've still spent less than the standard Joe.

TLDR - if you buy a big green or a Joe you won't regret it because they are great but if you don't mind a bit of tinkering you can save a lot of money.

  • That one looks good and a great price, the top vent looks a lot better than mine, seems to be a copy of the kamado Joe one. The only thing I'd want to double check is the lid hinge. If you've never opened one before you'll be surprised how heavy they are so you want that to be rock solid.
