Thanks @KT_Bee, that’s interesting what you say about women’s bikes assuming different proportions. I think I’m just going to have to get her on a few bikes and see how she gets on.

On fit, I wouldn’t assume women’s geo unless it actually fits her. As I understand women’s groups assumes proportionally shorter arms / body and longer legs (am sure someone will be here soon to correct me and /or explain all about stack and reach ). That’s not me at all and none of my bikes have had women’s geo. Also, be prepared to spend a bit more on top to get a properly comfortable / fitting saddle (and definitely worth getting sit bones measured when it becomes possible).
