• Looking for a bit of advice from people who have had some experience with a variety of different bags - basically if you were to start from nothing today but knowing what you now know what kit would you buy?

I've got a half frame bag that used for thermals and food - mainly snacks and cake.

Considering getting a seatpack and handlebar roll to do some overnight trips - ideally a single night, make coffee then ride to a café for breakfast - then maybe a few longer trips if I enjoy it.

Is this a good seatpack? https://www.carradice.co.uk/bags/saddle-packs-sqr-bags/bikepacking-seatpack

What's a good handlebar roll? Not looking for the cheapest ever or the most expensive - just something that's good quality and will last more than a couple of trips. Happy with 2nd hand gear.

The fork has mounts for cages on each leg - what's a good option for a cage if I need more space?

  • Best bikepacking bags I’ve seen were made by ortleib. Now very fashionable but really good materials and overall quality is superb. As for fork cages I recommend Blackburn’s Outpost Cargo Cage. Just a piece of metal but are supplied with nice rubberised straps

  • Cheers.

I've got a set of the ortlieb panniers and a couple of their dry bags - always been impressed with their stuff.

The Blackburn cages look decent, and relatively cheap compared to the other options on the market.
