• Hi all, I'm selling my 61cm Look KG251 bike. It has been sitting in my storage lockup for the last year and a half since it's a good bit too big for me and I moved on to other bikes/projects as well. So now I'm finally getting round to letting it go. The bike's frame dates from '97 and is one of Look's midrange frames from that time.

    The frame is carbon with alloy lugs and dropouts, and is in what I would say average/good condition since there are a good few paint chips and scuffs, but nothing deeper than this and nothing structurally wrong. The photos actually make it look smarter than it is since I've touched up the marks carefully- viewing close up it's quite clear that cosmetically the paintwork's a bit rough. The Campag groupset has come off better though and this is still pretty tidy. It's actually a very versitle bike that accepts slightly larger than "racing" tires if desired. The bike has been fully serviced before being listed here- all parts have been checked over and cleaned/greased/oiled and everything's in good order with minimal wear to the parts. Headset (replaced recently) and bottom bracket are both running ok, and wheels are true and perfectly round.

    Bars - Icon 42cm
    Chainset - Campag Centaur CT compact 48/34 (changed from the original Daytona one as prefer the compact ratios)
    Shifters - Campag Daytona 9 speed
    Cassette - Campag Daytona
    Bottom Bracket – Campag
    Front derailleur – Campag Daytona
    Rear derailleur – Campag Daytona
    Chain – Campag
    Brake callipers – Campag Daytona
    Seat post – 25mm inline USE? (unable to ID for sure as has been cut down)
    Saddle – Selle Italia Flite Titanium
    Pedals - Look Carbo Pro for Delta cleats (will possibly keep these unless the new owner especially wants them- can supply platform or standard clipless ones instead)

    Whilst riding riding the bike I was obviously a bit stretched out due to the frame, but nevertheless it was lovely to ride, very smooth and handled well, with all the stiffness you could ask whilst still keeping that long-ride comfort advantage found with well designed carbon frames, which makes it in my opinion a lovely classic carbon bike. There was someone before him who seemed sure he'd come on a weekday this week, but he said this on Monday and since then has disappeared off the radar, so I think we can rule him out... If the first chap also changes his mind then it's over to you. I ought to find out tomorrow.

  • Thanks for your interest, but to answer your question, I really don't think my height could be of much help to you as I've explained in bike description that it's frame size is noticeably too big for my height, although perhaps you've overlooked this? It's this fact which is the central reason behind my selling the bike. However, I'll tell you that I'm 5'8" and usually am comfortable with a 58cm frame for my bikes. I might suggest that instead of going by this size guide, instead you could look up general info on the Internet, Google or YouTube etc, which would give him a better idea IMO. But if your height is in the general ballpark size suitable for the frame, then you can always test ride it and check that way how you feel on the bike, as this is often the best way to ensure precisely correct fit/comfort.

  • I love this. You're 5'8" and you can use a 58cm frame? I'm even more depressed about my stumpy legs now, I struggle with 55cm.

  • OK well to answer your question isn't really giving advice about the bike being sold, so a few forumers might fairly complain that the thread shouldn't be bumped up this way, so if you wish to continue this talk after reading this then probably best to pm me. But to give general advice about bike fitment, you should know that my understanding is that with my personal fit on bikes, I put my quite unusual frame size preference down to the fact that I've a quite long legs in relation to my torso (which isn't hugely common) so longer seat tubes don't bother me that much, plus I sit pretty forward in the saddle and have the saddle far forward in the seatpost rails. And with the Look frame here I intentionally used an inline seatpost to also help along the positioning. Plus, there's the fact that the frame has quite a short top tube compared to its seat tube, although ultimately all of this couldn't improve things that much in my case as the frame was still too big for me, but no doubt it might help others in a similar position to me. And of course other riders might have the opposite problem and are considering being cramped on the bike, but I would just say in their case I can swap the seat post for a traditional lay back one, and also fit a longer stem if it's necessary. And there's a good few other tweaks riders can try to improve things.
