I wrote that out of jealousy

It probably involved an architect but I think the stereotypical architect would prefer the 60's original. Also - doesn't everyone tidy up / hide their mess for the sale photos?

Ended up getting this. Will see how it goes.
Got a link?

There is that

I was curious what the original looked like (if there were similar neighbours) since it appears to be 50% extension which is an interesting one to try and get through planning - there appears to be precedent.

You're replacing the water bar as well? The profile you have chosen there would work quite well without one but when you have a water bar the bottom edge of the door is rebated to fit it.
Nothing wrong with the one you've gone for but a wooden weather bar is easier to paint to match the door which is a requirement for a lot of people.

The existing water bar has failed somewhat catastrophically; where it's fixed in to the cill it's let water in to the fabric of the wood and it's all rotting. I'm not sure it would even be possible to fit a new one reliably.

Someone built a comprehensive school onto their house

We did it! Exchanged and completed on the same day yesterday, just had our first night in our new house :)
It went right down to the wire - exchanged about 5pm. Five minutes before we heard from our solicitors that it had gone through we had decided to head up to the storage place, after waiting outside with the removal men since 1pm. Had literally driven down the road when we heard.
Removal guys left at 7pm and were clearly knackered after their 10 hour day.
All this stress caused by the other side's muppet solicitors who posted one of the death certificates we needed by normal post on Friday so it still hadn't got to our solicitors yesterday. Then it turned out they'd cocked up further and it wasn't a certified copy. Fortunately I had predicted their shitness and ordered the death certificate in question from the Register Office on a next day service, thereby saving our purchase.
House is dusty and dirty but we already love it and it has so much potential. It's so quiet here apart from the sound of birds - @chrisbmx116 you weren't exaggerating! I've honestly never heard so many birds anywhere I've lived.
Was too wound up to sleep last night so was ordering wheelie bins and changing my address with people online instead. Turns out geese honk at 3am, who knew...

Not the easiest but if you were to use repair care you can drop a piece of perspex in the groove and build the edges up to it. It won't stick to perspex so you get a decent finish. otherwise just build it up by hand and chisel the edges of the groove. There are other methods. I had to do one recently, turned out fine.
You could cut the existing cill out and replace it using repaircare to fix the joints. I do that occasionally but it's kind of preferable not to cut them out because you have to cut through the mortising, sometimes it's necessary.
The way you are doing it will be a bit of a bodge because your door opens inwards, the rubber flap on the stormguard would be more effective if it closed onto something, having to close over the edge of the cill means it will be likely to have a gap under it so there will be a draft. In this case it's better to have rubber strip on the back of the door that provides some sealing. That is if you decide to delete the water bar.

I’ve got a foam strip to replace the water bar.
It’s a bodge I know. It just has to survive for another five years then the whole lot will be ripped out and replaced.

WAHOOOO!
Congrats and welcome to the neighbourhood... we must do a drink over a garden wall sometime soon.
Look forward to seeing what you do with the place.
We had similar drama with our move, I was in the Coppermill pub until about 9 waiting for the trucks to get our stuff out of storage.
Had a massive swan flying past my front window, was pretty wild, I think there is more countryside here than in what people actually think is the countryside (Norfolk for example) as its all just farm land where all wildlife is killed off by spinal column in a bap eating farmers with their giant chickens. -

Ta, very interesting- I’ve already got to £13k + VAT on the Armadillo model or whatever it’s called.
I’m going to need a bigger Kevin McCloud gilet budget. I reckon I could sell a bike or two and some guitars and cover the shortfall.

yeah that has to be a care home or something.
in any case I prefer it to the boutique house next door

Surveyor's round our house at the moment.
I swear there are forensic investigators who would be less thorough.
I forsee some intense negotiations with the buyers.
He's now asking about airbricks in the extension floor underneath the decking.
I haven't got a fucking clue.
Can hear him criticising our "loose" door handles!Contrasts somewhat with the surveyor we employed who somehow didn't check the basement/cellar in the place we're trying to buy. He's had to go back today to finish it. Not sure if the seller was trying to pull a fast one. The adjacent road is on some kind of fault line which sees the cellars flood when the water table rises. So we kind of need it checked.

Ours was like ‘they be missing’
Found them the other day - exact same height as the decking so kind of hidden...kind of

Wow. Almost worth moving to Lincoln for.
Lincoln is lovely. I could get a job at that hospital....
'Lincoln FGSS' has a certain ring to it. :)

Yes, I notice that every time I ride through--made by the distance from main streets and the lack of through motor traffic.

Anyone know the process for selling a house which has a family member living there under a lifetime tenancy agreement? Current house would be sold then most likely some money added to the cost of the new one - anything to look out for / take into consideration? (Scotland btw)
@hoefla @Airhead thanks. Ended up getting this. Will see how it goes.
