people are more upset at the royal family being accused of racism rather than the racist action.
People of colour are tired of explaining this shit .Self reflection is needed by racist people ,its so many things but lots of people are gonna need to have an difficult internal conversation with themselves. There is lot's of blogs and books out there to help understand racism . -

aparently diabetes makes you say racist things š¤.
Well so does alcohol, but we overlook that and doesn't get mentioned.
Not defending any outburst, just pointing out the track record of blaming stuff for racist outbursts.

Those who peg their sense of identity to national institutions/traditions tend not to be able to tolerate any criticism of them. Presumably because people with fragile personalities and/or low self esteem are most likely to have sought such crutches.
But the royals do attract bizarre levels of worship. That's a bit of a problem, since the institution is so entwined with Britain's imperial past. A lot of people won't tolerate criticism of anything associated with them, not just the direct criticism, and that means no criticism of so many things that need to change.
Maybe the only thing that could change that would be the royals themselves taking a firm and progressive stance on these things, but we've just had a fresh reminder why that isn't going to happen.

Slightly off tagent but very on the theme this thread https://www.linkedin.com/posts/activity-6776183333769629696-PE9l
No media coverage at all -

Although tragic and terrible not sure both cases are similar. But there is of course a miassive racial bias in the press coverage of such things.

The Sovereign is the head of the CoE, so worship is an accurate word for all sorts of reasons. People are programmed from birth to value and protect certain things, and for much of the English population the monarchy is one of those things.

You don't want to imagine how many times Lammy has had this:

white privilege in full effect like race and nationality are one layer.

For some reason, this pissed me off a lot more than I expected it to. I think it's the positioning of blame on disadvantaged groups. It doesn't seem very helpful. It's less than ideal to see the comments come from someone with the same heritage as me but I'm mindful of seeming too https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_true_Scotsman Tony will have his reasons.
For me, this reaffirms my belief that people will always do and believe what's easiest for them. For example, I will eat meat until someone asks me to start slaughtering my own food.
As a father I cannot trust in this country to be better when my daughter is older but I can do my best to equip her with the tools to navigate the playing field as it stands today. I hope that she'll feel empowered to trust her instincts about others' motivations and to not feel obliged to persistently engage.

for me that link leaves a bit of ambiguity as to which post you're referencing - assuming the Rob Ford one?
-
• #1241
in general all the conclusions of this report seem very 'this is not caused by racism - this is caused by [insert long list of things that are directly interlinked with racism, historically and currently]'
-
• #1242
Yes, that links directly to the 11:33am post. I assume it doesn't bring up the page in that location on your phone or other computer?
-
• #1243
oh - just tried and it's working nicely now - previously the link to the main report itself was coming up at the top of the screen above the one you linked, sorry for the confusion! (p.s. on a desktop/Chrome browser)

Breathtaking. Slavery wasn't all bad, at least they got to travel!
-
• #1245
Who expected a government commissioned report to come to a sensible conclusion(?). No-one.
Fuck off. Joke ting.
Every (yes, every!) academic study has found job discrimination faced by ethnic minorities in Britain. Institutional racism is a thing and Scarman and Macpherson highlighted institutions that were inherently racist e.g., police.

The Sewell Report:

This section of the #SewellReport describing slavery as 'the Caribbean
experience' makes it sound like one of Jane McDonald's cruises. -

This has echoes of Harry Stanley somehow--police being called by someone who has just failed to observe correctly, or perhaps expresses a prejudice in reporting it. (Harry Stanley was Scottish but somehow mistaken for Irish.)
Fortunately, the outcome was different in this case.
They are kneeling because of racist fuckwits like you.
And aparently diabetes makes you say racist things š¤.
Getting caught with hotmic like big Ron.
