  • Thanks a lot for that.

(it was the 2.4g.cm-3 that I struggled with)

  • Calling for Belgian help: when you hang your flag sideways is black on top or bottom?
I'm guessing on top because I'd assume you'd rotate it clockwise but I'm not sure.
    Thanks!

Hm, looks like it might be the other way...

  • Black is always nearest the flagpole, so any context where it's hanging downwards black is at the top.

  • What’s this called and can it be sourced as a spare? It’s riveted together, 36/26t off a triple chainset.

  • If I book a UK holiday with my visa credit card and it is cancelled due to covid can I claim?

I assume if the provider cancels we can claim as the goods/service hasn't been provided.

However, if we have to cancel then we wouldn't be covered.

    Is that correct?

  • Read the small print.

  • Hi,

moved house recently and left some stuff (tiles, carpet and paint that match the house) and some stuff we didn't want that the new owners wouldn't want either

they are a bit annoyed and want us to pay for removal as it's not on the fixtures and fittings doc
Any idea where I stand on this?
I'm coming round to contributing to removal but don't fancy paying for all of it

  • There's a certain amount that you kind of expect to be left behind and then bitch about on a cycling forum. I suppose they are within their rights to complain, but I'd still put them in the dickhead category if they are complaining about a couple of tins of paint.

If it were me, I would say the matching stuff was left in good faith as it might be useful for touch ups or repairs. Anything that is totally rubbish, I would contribute to the removal of, but still come back here and bitch about it.

  • Any idea where I stand on this?

I think technically and contractually you should stump up the cost of having it removed in the most efficient way possible.

Practically, you could avoid it by ghosting them. Up to you if think that's OK.

  • If they're keeping the existing fittings then those things will come in useful. If they're tearing them out then a few extra bits and bobs to get rid of will be a tiny addition to a huge amount of stuff they have to dispose of. So, in general, I'd say they're being a dick and ignore them or tell them the above. That said, it does depend what you mean by "carpet" if it's huge rolls of carpet that are taking up space, then I could see them being annoyed about it.

IANALawyer, but my impression is that once you've moved house, trying to enforce anything with regard to the previous owner comes down to a cost/benefit analysis. Unless what you stand to gain/not lose is greater than the cost of taking the previous owner to (small claims) court, then you basically have to suck it up.

In any case, presumably these communications are coming via your solicitor, so they should be able to advise you.

  • What torque should I do these bolts up for the frame carrier for a bobike maxi?

Struggling to find the instructions let alone the bolt torque settings.

    Frame is most likely 531st.

  • Dear AQA, my carbon Cannondale came with a 28.2 mm seat collar/clamp, would a 28.6 mm clamp work? Regards.

  • some stuff we didn't want that the new owners wouldn't want either

I guess this is probably the kicker. Sorting stuff out after you've moved is enough of a ballache without having to deal with a load of extra crap. You can see why they might be pissed off, depending what it is.

  • I'm going to say no.

If you crank it up I'm sure it'll hold the seatpost. But you're talking about a carbon frame not an old steel beater.

What's the worst that can happen?

  • In any case, presumably these communications are coming via your solicitor, so they should be able to advise you.

yes and thanks guys... I've asked my solictor for her opinion. so ghosting probably can't happen
they reckon £300 for a man and a van which is spendy for my mind
I'm tempted to offer to pay some towards it but as said they are dicks and I'm sure to be back to call them that some more

  • As others have said - unless it’s several trips to the tip’s worth, let them vent their spleen a bit, then just ghost them :-)

When we moved in to our current house, there was a fair bit up in the loft. Maybe 30% of it was stuff that could reasonably be considered ‘useful’ (replacement tiles for the kitchen, paint, etc) but the rest was basically rubbish. Most of its still up there, 8 years later.

Moving is a massive pain in the balls and sometimes, if the new owner wants to be in the house on the day they’ve booked the van/removal company, then they need to give the people moving all their stuff out a bit of slack.

  • Could you offer to come and collect it? I can’t actually see what they could do that wouldn’t cost them as much as they’d stand to get back off you. How much stuff was it? A car load? Van load?

  • I live the other side of the country now... I'd say it's a van at most.

I'm not sure how effective ghosting is as my solicitor has my address so they surely have a way to find us and then they will be making a small claim and charging storage

  • unless it’s several trips to the tip’s worth

Ha ha I ended up doing this. Just CBA with the hassle of enriching solicitors to ask for money we weren't going to get.

  • and some stuff we didn't want that the new owners wouldn't want either

    Got to ask why?

I mean tiles and paint is good will / fairly standard. But why leave shit you don't want and you know they wouldn't either?

  • I suppose a van load is a fair bit! It’ll be interesting to hear what your solicitor says, but yeah sounds like offering to meet them half way would be a good start. In all honesty, I think I’d have been a bit pissed off with that much stuff left behind!

  • Got a rope from Decrackalon to take to the woods to make a swing.

Good ideas for what to buy (that's light) for a base. Thinking of one of the button type things (like a button lift when you go skiing) so I just tie the rope on to it.

Needs to be light/transportable and mostly for use by 11 year olds but with the occasional 100kg adult having a go.

  • I used to make tons of those things as a kid in our backyard before Dutch Elm Disease wiped out the big trees. Did lots of experimenting and something like you describe would have been ace, and a lot safer than the contraptions I came up with.
