Loving the 12 year transition of this forum from all the mad LoPro fixie skidders to collectable and notable super high end road bikes to now loads of us rocking the dad mobiles

Oh yes. We have a 20" Raleigh going spare. PM if interested.

Strong work on the front rack carry. Was okay on the back, just had to be extra cautious with the speed over speed bumps and constant mental nagging to myself not to filter through traffic.

I may have an Islabike Beinn 20 going spare. It'll need a respray unless said 5 year old is called Martha, but that's doable.

i'm thinking about buying this https://www.bike-discount.de/es/comprar/cube-sl-road-lady-iridium-n-black-1016161 for my partner to use as kid transporter bike. i'm not sure about the front geometry, the angle is really slack and the trail is going to be high , is it going to be a problem. as well i think that she is between xs and s but in this case i think that a longer top tube will give more space for the baby seat is it a good idea?

I've just ordered a thule yepp Nexxt mini but what's the deal with helmets for a 1 year old? Any recommendations?
-
• #437
Our boys had lazer p’nut helmets at 11 months, found them ok although look out for a magnetic clip if you can to avoid the dreaded neck pinch 😫

I got a Giro Scamp helmet for my daughter. Seems to fit well enough and looks like it'll last her a while.
-
• #439
I’ve had a Giro Scamp for a couple of years with boy #1 and have been impressed enough to get another for boy #2, the latter needed XS, my oldest was in size Small from 1 yo as he has a bigger head.
-
• #440
Cheers all, gonna go with the scamp. XS is good she's only got a small noggin and if she grows out of it in a year we've got another kiddo coming in May who'll be ready for it.

Finally got around to installing the Bobike
Maxi @Sheppz kindly gave me.It's on the frame cradle thing as I didn't want to fully rely on my p-clipped Tubus. I've moved it as far forward as possible so it's not involuntarily wheelying. But the steering still feels very, very, very light and twitchy on the front.
What's my best option here? Long stem and less sweep on the handle bars? Maybe a bit less rise too?
The previous set up was for a front mounted seat so not sure the albatross bars are right any more. Which is a real shame.

YEAH! that's wicked. Im no expert but a flat bar that throws weight forward would make sense - or a 12 pack of fosters in that bar bag ...#amirightdadz?

God if only.
I had a glass of wine with dinner the other day and felt like shit the next day.
Think I'm going to go with the On One OG v2.

Thanks again. It fits no.1 perfectly. -

Kick stands? As my bike is going full dad wagon a double Kickstand jobby actually seems to make sense. Had a a quick look online and they all look the same to me but would obviously like to know it's not just gonna fall apart.

Repeating what I was told when I asked the same question, don't bother.
You've got to go really big to put your trust in one, and TBH it's just better to hold it so you know it's safe.
Got to say that I think they are right. I usually prop mine up against a wall or pedal stand it, and it's fine.

Fair do's, I hadn't ever thought about it before but we're going to buy a cargo bike at some point in the next year so seeing them made me think it was a good idea.
-
• #447
I think on a cargo bike it's a bit different. No experience, but isn't the CoG much lower, and doesn't the stand work more like on a motorbike?

I've been asked to help sort a a Dad mobile type bike for my brother in laws birthday so have been reading back through here to see what works.
Rigid MTB looks to be the fave, I'm thinking also a touring bike with enough tyre clearance would be a reasonable option? Anything else I should keep an eye out for with a recommending a bike - rack eyelets etc.
Their little one is coming up to 3 in a few months time so I'm also wondering how long the bike seat would be useful vs the kid outgrowing it/wanting to ride their own bike?
Also if anyone is looking to move something suitable along, to fit a rider just over 6 foot give me a shout please. Thanks.
Edit - if you happen to know of anything that is actually in stock at the moment that would be great to know too.

Once they learnt we found ours just wanted to ride mostly always (@4 - 4.5yo) but we kept the seats for occasional use and trips to parks further away etc for a good couple years beyond that. Point is he’ll get use out of a seat for at least a year - probably longer.

Cross post from the Wanted forum:
I have finally got round to building up my first ever road bike into a singlespeed kiddyhauler. It's going to be a bit of a workhorse in various guises as the little 'uns migrate between double trailer -> himax seat -> bikes of their own. It will also be shared between me and my wife hence the need to move the seat up and down easily. It also turns out that (for me) 44x16 is too big a gear for hauling 30kgs worth of boys plus trailer. Yes I know the steerer needs a chopWhat I'm after:
18/19/20t singlespeed cassette cog
28.6mm QR seatpost clamp
Kickstand
Cheap 28mm tyres
