It's a good proverb, but surely an even betterest time to do it would have been when Cornelius Vermuyden was digging up big bits of East Anglia with the assistance of tens of thousands of Irish and Scottish labourers. I mean, why didn't Cornelius simply say 'Oi lads. All that stuff you're digging up, put it in a big pile just north of Ely. About 2000 metres high? Sounds perfect. While you're at it, build a road with 21 hairpins on it, but make sure one's reserved for the Dutch, eh? Nudge nudge, wink wink.'
I mean, why wouldn't you? Bloody Cornelius. Man had no vision.
I blame the Dutch for there being no hills in these here parts. They were the original landscaping contractors. Don't see why they couldn't have added a mountain or three while they were at it.
