  • Jealous of the skills on display here. I do love a bit of sign writing but I do not have the the eye, the hand or the taste to consider even dabbling.

My buddy Mia took it up a few years back is single-handedly beautifying Margate one shopfront and fanlight at a time. I'm not sure she has a website but some of here stuff is on facepank if you search for Mia Apples. She's also one half of the genius team behind Amy Grimehouse and Margate Pride.

  • I've not heard of her, but I'll check her out man.

  • A bit more painting this week whilst printing is quite.

  • Stress of Covid and quite work lead to four days of single stroke lettering practice. Very therapeutic to just form the shapes. Trying subtle changes to letters as I go. Some random phrases and words do appear though.

  • This is great, nice touch with the ornaments on 'fancy'. I've been meaning to start practicing calligraphy again. The breadth of LFGSS surprises me again.

  • Cool thread.

  • Couple more things before I head off on paternity leave for a couple of weeks.

Going to be doing a load of gilded individual letters when I get back and put them up on my store.

  • I'm trying reverse gilding for the first time for the fanlight above my front door. I did my first application of gold yesterday and it went pretty well - a few small creases but I was pretty pleased for a first attempt. I've just gone and done a second application and it looks like the original gold is lifting a bit when I flood the size. Any tips @konastab01 @Manson7am?

  • Also the overlap where I've laid one leaf over the other is really pronounced. How can I mitigate this?
